Complaint: Window inserts replaced. After replacement the windows (double hung) will not stay up. 7 house window inserts (double pane glass) replaced on 7/13/2011. Prior to replacement all windows in house would stay open when lifted up (double hung). Now the ones they replaced will not stay up when opened. All other windows in the house (all the same age)still work fine, will stay open. When I called them about it, someone came out and looked at the windows. They said the springs that hold the window open are old and worn. I can't accept that explanation since they all would stayed open prior to replacement and all windows they did not work on still work fine. It was only after replacement that we had problems (starting right from replacement). The invoice number for this job is (****) The customer number is (****) Total cost including labor was 2,585.34 Invoice was paid with a VISA credit card.

Desired Settlement: Fix the problem.

Business Response: When the tech met with the customer (gentleman) the first window he measured would not stay up. Do to balance rods. The tech spoke with gentleman about problem customer said he was aware of problem. The tech continued to measure the windows. When glass was replaced the gentleman was talked to again about the balance rods needed replaced. After glass was replaced customer called office and said hardware was not attached properly to window frames. Eddie's Glass had the same tech go out that measured to see what was not attached. When he arrived the tech meet with a female lady. There was no hardware that was not attached, the tech told her the same thing as he told the gentleman that the spring in the balance rods go bad they loose there tension after time replacing the glass has nothing to do with the hardware that holds the frames up. We at Eddie's Glass is very sorry that the balance Rods need replaced but it did not have anything to do with the glass being replaced. If you would like I can give you a name of a company that can help you with this problem. They specialize with hardware problems.

Consumer Response: (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Yes, the first window they measured had difficulties staying up, but it would stay up. However,none of the rest of the windows had any problem prior to their work. I am not a window specialist and so my assessment that perhaps the hardware was not properly attached was based on a layman's observation of a possible cause of the problem. If they say the hardware is all properly attached, I take them at their word. However it does not change the basic problem, that prior to their work all of the windows would stay up (given, that the first window they measured was less solid than all the rest). After replacement we had no way of knowing until a day later there was a problem with all of the windows they worked on because we were told not to open the windows for a day to let the sealant cure. I would ask Eddie's Glass to consider why only the windows they worked on have the problem. Other windows they did not work on still stay open fine. As a side note, we have noticed that with the onset of colder weather, a couple of the windows they worked on will now stay open, but the majority still will not.

BBB's Final Determination: After reviewing the position of all parties, BBB determined that the business made a reasonable effort to address the complaint. However the consumer remains dissatisfied.
