Description

BBB is concerned that iJango is a "pyramid company." The BBB defines a pyramid company as a "business opportunity that focuses primarily on monetary payments and recruitment of new payees rather than sale of a product of service." Accordingly, BBB requested verification and documentation that the primary revenue generated by representative is by commissions on sales of a product, rather than the recruitment of others. As of November 6, 2009 BBB has not received the requested documentation. According to the business's now unavailable website, iJango offered a network marketing opportunity. In the company's promotional materials, iJango described an interactive website "portal" or "interface" for customers to access social media and interact with online merchants. iJango claimed that their representatives can make money by inviting "friends, family and associates to use iJango...for FREE!" However, iJango recommended that you purchase the optional Community Directors package. The Directors package was available for a one-time fee of $149.95 and a monthly maintenance fee of $19.95. iJango claimed that income would be generated to those who purchase their product in two ways: 1. The recruitment of other individuals to purchase the opportunity and the recruitment of registered customers; 2. Commission on iJango's commissions that are generated by website traffic and purchases through iJango website "portals." The business claimed that this portal tracks individuals' web-traffic and ecommerce thereby generating commissions payable to iJango based on webpage views and purchases made by the user. The commissions paid to iJango would then be commissionable to the user and/or the user that sponsored him or her.

    BBB contacted iJango on August 3, 2009 regarding claims made in the business's promotional material. iJango claimed to be the "First to Market 'Internet Commerce - Network Marketing'." BBB requested the business substantiate this claim based on the BBB Code of Advertising which states that superiority claims may be made only if "the advertiser can substantiate all claims made." iJango responded on August 6, 2009 that they "firmly believe that iJango offers a unique opportunity." On August 11, 2009 BBB requested further substantiation in writing. To our knowledge the company has ceased use of this claim in its promotional material. Additionally, iJango claimed to have patents pending. BBB requested that iJango provide patent numbers to substantiate this claim. During the August 21, 2009 meeting with iJango, the company provided documentation regarding a provisional patent application filed by Cameron Sharpe. BBB determined that a provisional patent is not officially the same as a pending patent. The claim appears to have been discontinued.
