This “Garage Experts - Greater Austin” location is a franchise operation owned and operated by Alan F. I purchased a home in 2019 which had an epoxy floors installed by Alan F. 3 years earlier. The epoxy floor was shoddy workmanship and and cracked and bubbled up in numerous places. Allan F. supposedly had a “lifetime warrarty” on this job, per the original contract that was in my possession. I called Allan F. for a warranty repair and he refused to honor said warranty, on the grounds that the warranty is not “transferable” between home owners. I then solicited Alan F. to repair the damaged epoxy flooring, for an out-of-warranty repair, and Alan F. agreed. Alan F. botched the subsequent repair job, and in the process caused an additional $3500 worth of property damage due to pure negligence. I submitted a property damage claim to Alan F. for his property damage, and he initially refused, offering only to reimburse me for what I paid him to repair the epoxy. I refused this senseless offer since it did not address the property damage issue. Alan F. again refused to process my property damage claim, despite having liability insurance to conver the claim. I tried to escalate Alan F.’s refusal to the corporation HW, who stated that they don’t get involved in franschise locations. I ended up forcing a settlement for the full price of the property damage from Alan F. by working with a civil attorney under the threat of a civil lawsuit for Deceptive Trade Practice and Property Damage. Alan F. decided to settle only to avoid the cost of litigation that he was sure to lose. Alan F. is irresponsible, negligent, and arrogant. He continues to provide poor worksmanship for epoxy installs and repairs, which is supposed to be his main line of business. Further, he refuses to process legitimate property damage claims, despite having liability coverage to cover such claims. It’s necessary to negotiate legal settlements via civil attorneys to get him to act responsibly for his negligence. I would suggest looking for a competitor, if epoxy flooring is desired. I would also suggest a competitor that offers a real warranty that is transferable. Refusing to honor a 3 year old epoxy floor just because the floor now has a new owner is deceptive trade practice.

Garage Experts of Greater Austin Response

OUR RESPONSE:First and foremost, Garage Experts of Greater Austin stand by their product and workmanship. ************ was informed that diamond grinding the area and filling in the cracks on the patio area would not solve the problem. The foundation had settled which caused damages to the patio area. We are not and we do not claim to be foundation experts. However, after explaining all of this to ************, that it would NOT prevent him from seeing the obvious damage done by settling, we agreed to reapply our product and do the best we could at his insistence. We also advised ************ to get a foundation expert to repair the foundation before redoing his patio. ************ insisted that we proceed, so we did. We have it in writing that ************ stated he didnt care that it wouldnt be perfect, he wanted it redone. Id like to address some of Mr. ***** claims: Further, he refuses to process legitimate property damage claims, despite having liability coverage to cover such claims. Our Response:If said property damaged had occurred by us, which it did not, we would do the responsible thing. However. ************ wanted a new patio and he thought by trying to claim we damaged the area he could use our insurance to get that new patio. Nothing we did caused damage to a foundation or patio. He continues to provide poor workmanship for epoxy installs and repairs, which is supposed to be his main line of business. Our Response:That is an outright lie. We pride ourselves on doing the best job we can to make your garage/patio flooring beautiful. We have many, many satisfied customers. I ended up forcing a settlement for the full price of the property damage from ************ by working with a civil attorney under the threat of a civil lawsuit for Deceptive Trade Practice and Property Damage. Our Response:This again is a lie. ************ did not 'force' anyone and he never once gave our attorney his so-call attorneys name, phone number, or email. We instead worked with our attorney to reach a settlement with ************ so that this whole matter could be closed. Our attorney even requested that ************ sign a waiver stating that he would not publish anything inflammatory about Garage Experts. ************ refused to sign the document and threatened our attorney with filing a suit against our attorney. Our attorney advised us to refund all the money that ************ paid, which we did, and close the matter. It was not done as an admission of wrongdoing or damages it was simply refunding the cost of doing his kennel and patio. Our attorney could not speak with ************ as ************ continued to verbally & in writing threaten him, and ************ would not listen as our attorney said he was speaking on our behalf. I would suggest looking for a competitor if epoxy flooring is desired. I would also suggest a competitor that offers a real warranty that is transferable. Refusing to honor a 3-year-old epoxy floor just because the floor now has a new owner is deceptive trade practice. Our Response:First and foremost, the 3 yr. warranty is for any area that is exposed to outside elements on a constant basis. In other words, a patio. This is all stated in the warranty that each customer receives. It is not deceptive or unethical it is plain and simple. ************ was not the original owner and if he had been the three-year term would have expired. And because this is all spelled out clearly in our warranty that each customer receives, it is not deceptive trade practices and we were not doing anything in violation of any trade practices. Our corporate department has a legal team that write all warranties and we abide them as a franchise owner. We refunded Mr. ***** money in good faith, not because we were in the wrong, but to severe any relationship of any kind with ************. He agreed and signed legal documentation and accepted the money. Now a year later he is trying to smear our good reputation by making these inflammatory remarks and posting them on the BBB. We continue to work diligently in maintaining our excellent rating with the BBB and other avenues. We have many satisfied customers, and we take pride in our workmanship.

    Customer Response

    09/23/2021

I dispute all allegations made by business owner ************, to flagrantly besmirch my honest BBB review. I am in possession of a legal document wherein ************ asserts knowledge that he did a below-satisfactory job at my residence, and that the only reason he paid me over $3500 for property damage to the $600 work he performed, was to avoid a property damage lawsuit which he would have surely lost. You dont pay a settlement check for property damage when there was no legitimate property damage. The proof is in the legal document he signed, and in the settlement check he provided. Bottom Line: Avoid this business at all costs. There are better alternatives in the Austin area.
