An instructor at Barrett's ATA Martial Arts accused my son of pushing another student in class, without proof. When we informed them our student wasn't even there and we took exception to this, my son was penalized and told he would not be allowed to test for his belt, something he has working on for almost eight weeks. When we raised the issue with them, they said it had nothing to do with the pushing incident, but that he did not have a black belt attitude. We have no idea what this even means, and our student is testing for a green belt, not a black belt. Furthermore, there was never any indication from any instructor at any time that our student was not meeting the standards of the cycle, or did not have a black belt attitude. We believe that because all if this occurred within a week of this unfounded accusation, they are simply lashing out at us for raising a complaint. We believe it is wrong to pay a cycle's worth of fees and not receive this feedback just before belt testing. We have asked for the form to cancel our membership, but we have not received any communication since our request four days ago. We don't feel it is right to pay for another 30 days per our contract, when our child is blamed for something they didn't do, punitive measures are taken when we raise a question, and there is no communication from instructors on requests we have made. We do not feel this dojo should continue to take our money when we have decided that they have not followed through with their commitment to training our child, helping him achieve self-respect and discipline, or communicating with us about his progress.
