The BBB Accredited Business Locator ensures trust online
December 2, 2009 – Furthering its commitment to create a community of trustworthy businesses, Better Business Bureau has partnered with Azigo, a leader in user-centric technologies, to help consumers find businesses they can trust when they search and shop online this holiday season. Industry watchers are predicting online sales will be up this year, and now consumers can rest assured that the businesses they buy from are worthy of their trust.
The BBB’s Accredited Business Locator is powered by Azigo’s free, downloadable browser plug-in and displays the “BBB Accredited Business” seal whenever consumers search for products or services using popular search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and Bing. This seal indicates that a business is reputable and offers one-click access to the BBB report for that business. This provides maximum consumer protection and minimizes the risk of online fraud.
In addition to offering trusted guidance and advice to consumers on thousands of topics, BBB provides objective, unbiased evaluations on more than 4 million businesses across North America. More than 350,000 businesses across North America have earned BBB accreditation and agree to uphold BBB Standards for Trust, which include honoring promises and resolving marketplace disputes with customers. By partnering with Azigo, BBB can more easily deliver the most up-to-date information about trustworthy businesses to consumers in real time when it matters most – before they buy.
These in-browser reminders are powered by Information Card technology, a new standard endorsed by industry leaders such as Google, Microsoft, PayPal and Equifax. Information Cards simplify the Web, reducing login and Web site registration to a “one-click” experience while maintaining user privacy and safety. Azigo’s service uses Information Cards to create new and exciting Web experiences such as cross-site shopping reminders.
