No show for work, no communication from care provider.
My mother is fully disabled and can not do anything on her own, she needs 16 hour assistance through out the day. Calle Vinas has major communication issues, on multiple occasions the care takers did not show up and no one would call to inform us that no one is coming. Many times i had to skip out on work because i had to go back home and look after my mother. This is a never ending issue and no matter how many times i complained no one seems to care about it.

Desired Settlement
I am not looking for settlement, i just want this company to do what they are suppose to. They are a care providing company. If my mother is left on her own anything could happen to her and the help she might need would not be there. I wonder how many clients have they been treating like this.

The client speaks Russian only. She receives 9 hours of ICWP Personal Care Services daily. The client and family choose the hours they receive their care, the caregivers who care for them and the tasks that are performed while they are there.

The caregiver did not show for work on a Monday. The caregiver was subsequently dismissed for the no-call/no show. The caregiver did not call the 24-Hour Emergency Number to tell the company that she was not going to work. The client could not call for herself because she is not physically able to do so and she only speaks Russian, not English. The family did not call the company to tell us that she had no care because they leave each day before the caregiver is scheduled to arrive. The client's son called sometime after 1pm on Monday to advise that his mother had no care. A fill-in caregiver was identified and sent over Tuesday morning around 11am , but not by shift start time of 8am. The client's son was very unfriendly and intimidating, so the caregiver worked the rest of that day's shift and chose not to return. The secondary caregiver on staff for the client began working on Wednesday and will provide coverage while another caregiver is identified. The staffing coordinators are screening caregivers for the family to interview for the unfilled caregiver position.

The company cannot correct a staffing problem that they are not aware of. The hours are arranged at the family's discretion. The hours can begin earlier in the day so that the family is still there to verify that their chosen caregiver does arrive.

This client's language barrier makes emergency staffing particularly challenging because there is no family present during the day to assist in identifying what the client wants and needs. The client requires total care. The language barrier issue led to our inability to provide a caregiver for Monday's care. Tuesday's care began late as well.

The ICWP Program requires the client to have family and community supports in place. Calle Vinas can require the caregivers to clock-in by phone to ensure that the client has care for the day. However, there must be designated family or community members who can be available to care for the client on the rare occasion that a caregiver is not available. These supports will also need to be present when an emergency fill-in caregiver is sent due to the language barrier. Because this client only speaks Russian, the need for family support is significantly more urgent.
