Shopping Season is here!

July 16, 2013- Summer or not, it's time to think about ways you can shop wisely for back-to-school clothing and school supplies. Savvy shoppers begin planning now to get the most for their back-to-school dollars.

"Hold on to your wallets", said CEO, Blair Looney of Better Business Bureau serving Central California. School supplies, school clothes, electronics, shoes and much more will be purchased in the upcoming months and one third will most likely do some of that shopping "online". Families are prepared to spend an average of $800 to get their children ready for the new school year.

Just about everyone has felt the economic pinch and with that, families plan to shop for sales now more than ever. Shopping online can be more intriguing due to coupons, and buy more generic or store brands, among other money-saving strategies.

On-line purchasing may save time,

How can you tell if an online company is legitimate when you're thinking of buying something? Here are some key things to look out for:

  • Check out the company's website and look for the BBB logo
  • Check with your BBB and make sure they are Accredited
  • Make sure there is a physical address and customer service phone number for the company
  • Check the return policy carefully; watch for restocking fees
  • Make sure the company has a privacy policy to protect your confidential information
  • Keep a record of your online purchase. Print out the page with the seller's name, address, and phone number. Print out the page about the item you ordered. Print any email confirmation messages you get and any follow-up messages about problems in shipping.
