On November 26th I awoke devastated to find that my truck, trailer, and $20,000 of tools stolen. I am a self employed mechanic and the means to provide for myself were gone. I reported the theft to law enforcement. I was contacted on January 17th and informed that my trailer was recovered and at Cesares Towing. The trailer had a stolen plate and the wrong owner was informed on Nov. 28th that the trailer was in the yard Cesares Towing. *** did not complete a VIN verification until Jan 16th or 17th which was when I was informed. I went to Cesares Towing on Jan 18th to pick up the trailer. They informed me that my balance was "just over $4900, basically five grand," but that they "would be gracious and drop the price to $2400 if paid in full that day," with storage fees to continue accruing from that day in the amount of $85 per day. I responded that I had known for less than 24 hours. They still insisted that I need to pay the $2400 to release the trailer. The *** provided no assistance in resolving the matter. I did not have the means to pay to retrieve my trailer on Jan 18th and was forced to leave it. On Feb 3nd I received a lien sale notice that states the date Cesares Towing took possession of the vehicle was Jan 18th, the day that I was there, not the day it was towed. Fees calculated on the lien sale paperwork started on Jan 18th. On Feb 5th I contacted Cesares Towing to clarify the fee balance. They insisted that I owe the $2400 as stated in person on Jan 18th plus storage fees from that date. Within one day of being notified, I was ready to pickup the trailer and able to pay a tow fee plus one day of storage. At no fault of my own, having not been notified, my stolen property was going to cost more to be released than its value as stated by a *** vehicle report. How can I resolve this with Cesares? I am being held accountable for fees when I was not timely notified. When I was notified I responded in a timely manner. Please help!
