February 03, 2011
The BBB Canton, which services 12 counties in Ohio and 52 counties in West Virginia, is reporting an increase in almost all areas of service including: over 1/4 million website visitors, wireless mobile traffic increased nearly 90%, Accredited Business Directory hits doubled, and complaints filed are up 10%.

Nationally, the BBB Alexia U.S. ranking climbed from 683 in Dec 2009 to 482 in Dec 2010. Alexia is a company that rates most visited websites both nationally and globally. There has been an overall increase to BBB website visits from 50 million in 2009 to 76 million in 2010.

"These numbers reflect the magnitude of just how often consumers use the BBB to find businesses they can trust. Consumers are being more cautious than ever with their hard-earned dollars and want to make sure if they are spending money, they aren't going to get ripped off," said Amanda Tietze, VP of Public Relations.

The Better Busienss Bureau issues reports on both Accredited Businesses and non Accredited Businesses totalling 20,000 reports locally and over 4 million nationally. The Canton BBB has around 2,000 Accredited Businesses who agree to BBB standards for ethical business practices. The BBB is also known for helping consumers and businesses resolve disputes. The BBB received over 4,000 complaints in 2010 resolving nearly 70% of them.

Ninety-Nine percent of the people who contact the BBB do so via the BBB's website. As technology continues to evolve, so does BBB services. For example, wireless mobile traffic increased nationally over 600%, with over 225 thousand visitors in 2010. In its fiftieth  year locally and ninety-ninth year nationally, the BBB continues to evolve all aspects of our operations while maintaining principles and integrity that founded the BBB system nearly 100 years ago.
