The BBB has contacted this company concerning advertising issues. The company has addressed the issues brought to their attention and the BBB considers the matters resolved.    The advertising issues concerned:

a) Picture of the Amish-The BBB contacted the company after receiving numerous inquiries on the authenticity of the Amish made mantel. Through factory tours, and substantiation submitted by the company, we have learned the Amish made mantel represented in the ad is crafted and assembled by local craftsman from Holmes and Geauga counties in Ohio. The BBB considers this matter resolved. 

b)"Save money" "Uses less energy than a coffee maker"-The BBB contacted the company regarding the accuracy of the Heat Surge's efficiency compared to coffee maker efficiency. The BBB feels this is an apple to oranges comparison and that the product comparison is unbalanced.

The company responded by providing government studies that reference zone heating as a sufficient means of reducing your heating bill up to 20%. For further clarification the company has modified their advertisement in recognition that each customer's potential savings will be affected by variables involving how consumers operate the fireplace and where the fireplace is used.  These variables may also include turning down their thermostats while using the Roll-n-Glow fireplace to warm the room they are operating it in. 

Following the BBB request to modify the ad, the "coffee maker" claim was removed from the print promotion, but is included in the television commercial as "uses about the same energy as a coffee maker."  This correlation is based upon the two electrical products drawing the same average wattage from the standard electrical outlet.  Recent ads have indicated that the company has changed the headline to read " Only uses about 8 cents an hour" . The BBB will continue to monitor this statement.  

  c) Free Give Away- The BBB received several calls regarding the company advertising, which indicated a free heater. The company has since explained that the advertisement sells both the heater and the fireplace at $547.00 plus tax, however can sell just the heating unit minus the mantle at a price of $249.00. Complaints have indicated confusion in how the unit is being given for free.

The company position with the BBB is that since the unit is usually sold at regular price eliminating the cost of the heating unit and selling at special offer of $ 249.00, the heater is essentially free.  The BBB considers this matter resolved. 

   d) Solid Wood (Oak)- inquiries have indicated confusion as to the validity of the mantel being made of solid wood (oak). The company has informed the BBB during a 9/11/08 meeting, that they are now using real wood.
