The Better Business Bureau serving Northern Colorado and Wyoming warns consumers to beware of phony online auto dealers after a New Hampshire consumer wired $35,000 to what he thought was a legitimate online Cheyenne auto dealer only to discover the website was phony and he has no way of getting his money back.
The BBB is investigating the Web-based auto dealer purporting to be Bee Back Motors of Cheyenne, Wyo. According to the Wyoming Secretary of State there was a legitimate corporation of a very similar name registered to Ralph Middleton, now deceased, which is no longer active. Shane Fox of the Department of Transportation Dealer Licensing confirms that there is no licensed dealer in Wyoming under this name.

The BBB received a complaint from a New Hampshire consumer who signed a purchase and sales agreement for an automobile from the alleged company and subsequently wired $35,000 plus a $15 wire transfer fee to the company on March 9. The consumer was advised he would receive delivery of the automobile March 17 and never did. Further calls to the sales representative, Alexander Bruckler, were not returned, although the car was still listed on the website as available for purchase.
“This situation is particularly concerning because the website looks very official,” says Shelley Glause, Investigator for the Better Business Bureau serving Northern Colorado and Wyoming. “We want to make sure consumers always check additional resources and do their homework when shopping online, especially with big ticket items.”

Specifically, the BBB recommends the following for buyers when shopping for a car online:
Contact authorities in the state where the company is located to verify they are licensed to operate.
Always check the dealer’s BBB Business Review at
Beware if the dealer only accepts payment by money-wire transfer.
If purchasing a vehicle out of state, have a person you trust inspect the vehicle in person before paying.
Beware of prices that seem too good to be true.
