January 16, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 16, 2014 - CALGARY, ALBERTA - The grass wasn't always greener for area residents last year as lawn maintenance was BBB's most complained-about industry in 2013. According to the 113 complaints, consumers felt they had been mowed and hosed by lawn-care companies. Today, BBB releases the top 10 industry complaints and inquiries of 2013 - From lawns to roofs, we've got you covered from the ground up.

President and CEO of BBB Serving Southern Alberta and East Kootenay, Sandra Crozier-McKee, says keeping track of the kinds of industry complaints received by consumers provides valuable feedback for businesses. "We always encourage consumers to check with BBB before entering into any kind of investment," she says. "We are able to let consumers know the kinds of complaints a business has received and how that business has chosen to handle them."

For instance, the most common complaints about lawn maintenance businesses were services not being rendered, poor timing on multiple fertilizer treatments and automatic renewal contracts rolling over from one season to the next to name a few.

"Complaints serve as a checkpoint for businesses to see what areas they can improve in and give them a chance to showcase their customer service skills," says Crozier-McKee.
