Calgary -- November 13, 2008 -- Tonight at The Westin Calgary, BBB Serving Southern Alberta and East Kootenays will host the 11th Annual Business Ethics Awards ceremony. The event, spotlighting trustworthy businesses whose business practices have been scrutinized by a panel of third-party judges, begins with a reception at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner at 7:00 pm. The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 8:30 pm.
“We created the Business Ethics Awards in 1997 to highlight those companies helping to create a marketplace where buyers and sellers can trust each other,” said Ellen Wright, President & CEO of BBB Serving Southern Alberta and East Kootenays. “People often focus on negative business behaviour, but there are so many exceptional companies in the Calgary area that deserve to be celebrated. This is our chance to do just that, and we look forward to it every year.”
More than one hundred businesses were nominated from a wide variety of industries, a testament to the many high quality companies operating in the Calgary area. Each nominee was asked to submit an information package; the judging panel compared these packages against a set of criteria, including high ethical standards of behaviour toward customers, suppliers, and employees, and acknowledgment of ethical marketing practices by industry peers.
This year’s blue-ribbon panel of judges consists of Retired Judge Michael H. Porter of Calgary; George Yates, Director of Consumer Programs, Service Alberta; and Wendelin Fraser, Dean of the Bisset School of Business at Mount Royal College.
These prestigious will be presented in four award categories: Small Business, Medium Business, Large Business, and Non-Profit/Charity.
Award recipients and BBB personnel can be made available to any media outlets in attendance at the event.
