Complaint Category: Late delivery of products

Complaint: I am writing to you today in regards to a piano delivery made to my place of residence by Eagle Moving & Storage in November 2013 as well as to express my dissatisfaction in the service delivery my wife and I received.

Eagle Moving & Storage's attempt to move the piano into my home has resulted in physical damage to walls in the form of dents, paint chipping as well as a large hole (pictures can be provided). This damage occurred despite one of their mover's repeated insistence on the piano's inability to make the turn from the landing onto the second flight of stairs within my home (the area where the significant damage occurred). This mover was repeatedly told by an individual named ***** that the piano would make the turn.

Furthermore, the piano itself received damage during transport. There is a dent to the right front leg of the piano approximately 1-1 1/4" in length and 1/2" in width (pictures can be provided) which was not present prior to the move. When my wife pointed out the piano damage, she was advised by ***** that they "didn't do that." When my wife pointed out that the dent also included traces of the blue cloth used in the piano's transport, she was told by ***** that it "must've happened on that turn (from the landing on the second flight of stairs)."

On Eagle's website they pledge "to treat your prized instruments with the care and respect they deserve." This was certainly not the case in the service we received. In fact, the movers were not even respectful enough to offer a simple apology for the damage they caused to our home and our prized instrument.

Initial Business Response
In response to the complaint made by Mr. ****, we accepted the job from Mrs. **** on the phone. She was quoted our charges and in speaking with her she informed me that the stairwell at the delivery site had a large stairwell and one turn. When we arrived at the pickup location the customer was not present and only a young girl was there to let us in to remove the piano. As the clients were not present they could not sign our release waiver or accept any insurance program for the move. The piano was moved to the delivery location which was a condo. As the stairs were not as stated there was an issue with making a second turn. Rather than leaving the piano in the entrance way at the bottom of the stairs, attempts were made to get it around the corner. Unfortunately there was some minor damage to the piano and stairwell. I received an email from Mr. **** the following day. I called him and I discussed with him our company policies and limited liability. I had received two additional emails from Mr. **** but was unable to respond as I was away from the office for a couple of weeks. As this particular move did have some issues and misunderstandings we are prepared to make a one time compensation in the amount of $311.00, being $261.00 to repair the piano leg and $50.00 requested to touch up the hole and scratches on the wall. We feel that the delivery charge will stand as the piano was picked up and delivered as promised. We regret and dissatisfaction caused however it was our intention to please the customer by trying to get the piano to the upper level as promised.
If this is acceptable please be advised that I will be out of the country until January 8th at which time I would be happy to make compensation as per above.

Complaint Resolution: Company resolved the complaint issues. The consumer acknowledged acceptance to BBB.
