RUN, do not walk, away from this contractor. *********************, principle of Mastered Home Renovations ***** completed a major house renovation for us. We were extremely disappointed with him for the following reasons: Before we signed a contract, he said the amount he quoted in his set price contract would be the final cost to us. He said he was not like other contractors who added costs along the way. A month in, he said he needed more money as the basement demolition revealed additional work would be necessary. We gave him another $******.00. A month after that, a text message from him read, we had a building inspection this last Monday and this guy requires extra new things to ad (sic) on, consequently more cost. This was not true. When we looked more closely, we discovered the inspector requested that smoke detectors be installed in all the bedrooms. ************** and his electrician should have known about this as the requirement for smoke detectors in all bedrooms was adopted by the *************** on November 1, 2015. ** ** ****** **** ** *** ***** *** ********** ** * **** ** *** *** **** ***** *** ***** **** *** ******* **** ******** ** *** ********** ** ** *** ******** *********  We did not give him the additional money. When we refused to give him more money without receipts, he became surly and short with us. He installed a microwave hood fan so high it would have been a safety hazard to use. He argued it had been installed according to code. We checked and he ultimately lowered it.He did not make our job a priority but went off to work on another project. Our contract stated the project would be completed in 11 13 weeks. It took 21 weeks for ************** to complete our renovation. The contract included a clause that read, the worksite would be cleaned to customer standards on termination of project. In fact, we had to have the furnace and ducts cleaned and were told by ******* (the company we hired) that the contractor had swept or dropped a lot of shavings and debris into the ducts. When we received our final invoice additional expenses were included which we had not approved. Two days after we received this invoice ************** placed a Builders Lien on the property as he knew we were planning to sell. We did sell and paid the additional amount to ************** so that the lien would be removed and we could transfer title. The cost to us was greater to dispute the amount and possibly lose the sale then to pay the disputed amount. Is this an ethical way to do business? There are many other examples we could provide but space is short and we cannot list them all.

Hello ******** and ***, We apologize for the delay in getting your project done on time. With many suppliers taking weeks longer than expected, we could not work without having the material on hand to do the job. This project was an old house that had many features hidden behind walls that were not up to standard-to-date-codes, requiring a lot of unforeseen extra work. And with the effort to keep the budget as cost effective as possible, we were at the whims for selection, quality and stock of places like IKEA. We are extremely proud of the job accomplished and feel that the quality craftsmanship demonstrates our core values. We are happy to post before and after pictures of this work to show the transformation of a cramped dingy house, into a beautiful open concept home.
