Tips When Shoe Shopping:
Shop Around. There are many different retailers to purchase shoes such as, department stores, specialty stores, outlets, and online stores, depending on the type of shoe being bought. It is best to shoe shop during the afternoon or evening because everyones feet tend to swell a little during the course of the day. It will also help when trying to avoid the crowds and lines.
Get Measured. While shopping, have a sales associate measure both feet while you are standing to ensure a correct measurement. Before buying, make sure to try on both shoes and walk around the store since each type and brand of shoe fits differently.
Bring Socks. Bring or wear the type of socks you would normally wear with the type of shoe. Socks for running shoes differ from socks you would wear with dress shoes. It is important to walk around in the shoes with the correct socks they would regularly be worn with. Make sure to try on the shoes with any orthotics or other inserts that will be worn with the shoes.
Check for Comfort. When walking around in the shoes they should immediately feel comfortable. Do not buy shoes that are stiff and need to be broken in. The shoes should offer support and allow your feet to breathe. When wearing the shoes your index finger should be able to slide between your heel and the back of the shoe without trouble. If there is too much space the shoes are most likely too large and if your index finger does not fit the shoes are too tight. At the front of the foot the width of your thumb should be able to fit between the end of your toes and the end of the shoe.
Buying Online. Shopping online is helpful when comparing prices to get the best deal. But when buying a pair of shoes online it is best to try the same pair on in a store so you can ensure the size is correct and the shoes are comfortable for walking or running. Before placing your order with the business make sure to check out their accreditation, reviews, ratings, and complaints with the Better Business Bureau. Look at the businesses’ return policy incase the shoes need to be sent back for an exchange. Save the receipt and keep the tags on until you are positive that you are keeping the shoes.
