Every spring, paving scammers are on the lookout for homeowners they can scam. These scammers will offer you a deal, take your money, but leave your driveway looking worse than before. Beware of any paving businesses that come to your home and solicit work. Use these tips when searching for a reliable driveway paving business.
Tips To Avoid Driveway Paving and Sealing Scams:
Check out Reputable Businesses. Search for trustworthy businesses at bbb.org. Make sure the business gives straight and clear answers to any questions or concerns you have. Watch out for businesses that come to your door and claim they have extra materials or happen to be in the area.
Get Estimates. It is smart to get a few estimates from reliable businesses. Compare the costs, but don’t always jump to the lowest bid. The businesses may be charging more for quality materials and experience. Do not allow the business to pressure you into making an on-the-spot decision; this is a sign of a scam.
Ask for References. A reputable business should be happy to provide a list of references to potential customers. Contact the references and ask if they were satisfied with the business and the finished job. Ask to check out their driveway to see what the completed project looks like.
Pay with a Credit Card. When dealing with a driveway sealing business always pay using a credit card. Beware of businesses that ask for cash or a check made out to an individual.
Get Everything in Writing. Make sure all the business’ information is included in the contract. Make sure the contract lists the start and completion date, the costs, and the materials being used. Write down the registration number of any vehicle that comes to do work at your home. If the business will not provide a signed contract, walk away.
