UMass Boston is charging me a $200 "Graduation Processing Fee". I am a remote post-grad certificate student at ***. I have never set foot on campus and never will. I have never used any of the universities facilities or other in-person resources. I am not walking at graduation nor am I receiving a diploma (nor do I wish to receive a diploma) or anything else in the mail. I am not conferred in any degree program. I am merely completing classes for a post-master's certificate. Since beginning my studies at UMass, in addition to the expected tuition, I have already paid the following fees: ID Fee: $75 in January 2021 and $12 again in January 2022, despite never receiving my first student ID card in January 2021 /// $94.25 lab fee in January 2021 despite never accessing a University lab /// $390 "Combined New Student Fee" /// CNHS Fee $700 x3 semesters. That's $2,671.25 simply in "fees" for non-tangible expenses.------I have contacted the Bursar and was told: Please be advised that the ***** of **************** and the University ***** of ******** determine all charges.Graduation Processing Fee is a one-time, non-refundable fee that is added to the student's account when they apply to graduate. The fee is to be paid when the student applies to graduate regardless of whether they intend to participate in the commencement ceremony. This fee includes costs related to diplomas, academic regalia, publications, convocation and commencement ceremony expenses.
