Complaint: We wanted to express our frustration with the service we received on 10/11/11. After taking several months to finally get an appointment to fix our furnace, we were extremely disappointed when we came home to survey the repairs. We have been customers since 2008 and since that time, no trucks have ever driven on our lawn. We are not sure why they decided to drive on our property for this repair, but the heavy truck caused large tire grooves that needed to be repaired. Also, there was a large amount of sediment left on our basement floor from the repair. There was a large bucket near the furnace that could’ve been used to properly dispose of the sediment. We deducted the amount to repair the damage from our last bill and have canceled our contract with your company.

I am responding to Complaint #8825495.................

#1 - 1st call was on June 9th to look at problem. Diagnosed either new  Water Coil or Indirect Hot Water Heater. Customer unsure. Documents attached

#2 - 2nd call, Quote was prepared for Hot Water Coil and leaky copper pipes. Job was completed on 10/11/11 but wasn't able to return to pick up speedy dry used to absorb muddy water coming out at the time of job replacing coil. Speedy dry was contained in one spot in front of boiler. Customer refused us to return and clean up. Documents attached.

#3 - Customer says trucks had driven on lawn. It was a van. Before driving on lawn pictures were taken to show condition of  the lawn. Pictures attached. Reasoning for driving on lawn was due to the distance between the driveway and basement....around 100ft to basement to carry in parts and tools. Pictures attached

#4. Please note pictures #10, 11, & 13 are of dogs fecal releases around work area. Dogs are kept in basement. Technician had to work in unsanitary conditions but did not complain.

#5 - Please note pictures #8, 9, 22, 24, 27 is where Van drove on lawn. Remaining lawn pictures are of existing conditions.

#6 - Pictures are documented to show condition of the property upon arrival.

I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # 8825495.

When we called to get a quote for the repair of the coil & heater shortly after the June 9th visit, it took Exeter Fuel a while to prepare the quote.  We were very certain we needed to get it repaired.  June – October is a very long time to have a problem with a furnace. 

To us, the homeowners, the job was not complete if a large mess was left in our basement.  Again, it could’ve been contained in a bucket which was located right next to the furnace. We are confused on how the job was completed if the servicemen would need to return to clean up.  Obviously the job was not complete if they needed to return.  They didn’t call us to inform us of the mess or the need to return.  

We, the homeowners, should’ve been consulted prior to driving on the lawn.  Again, of all the repairs & service we have had in the past, nobody has ever driven on our property.  If it was never an issue in the past to walk 100 ft, why would it suddenly be an issue on October 11?

BBB's Final Determination: After reviewing the position of all parties, BBB determined that the business made a reasonable offer to resolve the complaint. However the consumer did not accept the offer.
