Complaint: I have had Barbary Coast Fuel as the oil provider for many years. They are on contract to clean the burner every year and deliver fuel on a regular basis. This year, for the second year in a row, they have failed to provide that service. Both years, the oil tank was empty which caused a lack of hot water for the tenants. They also failed to maintain the regular burner service. I always pay for service/oil delivery immediately and expect the same consideration.The copany was called last night and we were told that a delivery could not be made until this morning. Today, after being told to fill he tank with only 100 gallons of oil, they filled it to capacity resulting in a bill for $809.03! And, there's still no hot water! When the tenant spoke to the woman at the company, she told her that the serviceman needed to get into the cellar to service the burner. However,the tenant was not informed of this when she called about the lack of oil last night. There was no one at home to let the serviceman in to get the hot water going because EVERYONE WAS AT WORK. Had we known that he had to get inside, arrangements would have been made to let him in. After calling again today at 4:00, the tenant was told that there was no one available to get the hot water going. As a result of the company's negligence again this year, the tenants have been without hot water for 2 days and there is a large oil bill.

Desired Settlement: A discount on the price of the oil that was delivered.

Business Response: BARBARY COAST FUEL CORP. *** ****** ****** **** ******* *** ** *** September 24, 2014 BBB of Eastern, MA RE: complaint #******** To Whom It May Concern: I Have received notification that a customer of Barbary Coast Fuel Corp., has filed a complaint with you This letter is to serve as our response to said complaint Customer ís on automatic delivery with our company and has been for many years, that being said, being on automatic means we the tank on each delivery. No notice was received to only, only put in 100 gallons, which being on automatic cannot be done, said deliveries have to be fills. Customer does not have a contract on the unit as she stated. Unit was cleaned on February 27, 214 and prior years the tenant was called to schedule appointments for cleanout, and our office was told tenant would check with the landlord and call us back. The tenant called on September 11, 2014 after 5:00 pm, at which time the office was closed, and the call was paged out to **** who is on call for the company 24/7. She called the tenant back and informed her the truck was done delivering and that a delivery could be made on September 12, 2014 in the morning. **** explained to the tenant that the office was informed a couple of years ago that the hot water did not run off the oil and that is why a delivery had not been done through the Summer months. Apparently that is no longer the case there and the office was not informed of that. Tenant was told that the unit would need to be primed, due to running out of oil, and that the driver would need access to the basement. When the driver put the oil in and went to the basement to prime the unit he found the door locked. The office tried calling the tenant but only got a voicemail. The tenant called back, after hours, and **** again called her back and informed her that the company was not on 24 hour call yet and that a serviceman was not on Standby but that she would a burner technician to send over. **** then got a servicemen from a different company to go over and prime the unit. The tenant was not without hot water for 2 days, as landlord stated, but for 24 hours. Landlord’s complaint states she would like a discount on the price of oil, which was already done at the time of her delivery. The price of oil on September 12, 2014 was $3.45 and the customer’s delivery was discounted to $3.35 which was marked on her delivery ticket.
