Complaint: s HELLO, MY NAME IS VITO SIOUFAS. ME AND MY FAMILY VACATION EVERY YEAR AT OLD ORCHARD BEACH, WE LOVE IT. THIS YEAR I STAYED AT THE SEA CLIFF MOTEL.. I WAS THERE FROM JULY 15 TO JULY 19. I HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE MOTEL, IT WAS QUIET AND THE POOL WAS GREAT. THE ONLY COMPLANT I HAD IS THAT THEY WILL NOT RETURN MY 1OO DESPOSIT. THE REASON WAS THAT WE SMOKED IN THE ROOM. MY WIFE AND I
DONT SMOKE, NEITHER DOES MY ** YEAR OLD SON. THE ROOM WAS AS GOOD A CONDITION AS COULD BE. THERE IS NO PROFF OF US SMOKING IN THE ROOM. THERE IS NO REASON TO ION'S THE ROOM AS THEY SAY. IF
I WERE SMOKING IN THE ROOM WOULD HAVE IT BEEN BROUGHT UP WHEN I WAS THERE, AND NOT WHEN I AM BACK HOME. I STAY THERE 4 NIGHTS, THE ROOM WAS CLEANED ALL FOUR MORNINGS WHEN I WAS PRESENT,
WHY WASN'T THIS BROUGHT UP. THE ONLY THING SAID WHEN I LEFT WAS THANK YOU AND HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN. THIS TYPE OF ABUSE MAKES ME SICK. NOT FOR THE HUNDRED DOLLARS BUT FOR THE SEANKY WAY
THEY TOOK IT. I HOPE OTHER PEOPLE DONT GET ROBBED LIKE I DID AT THE SEA CLIFF TO RUIN A GOOD TIME IS NOT A WAY TO DO BUSINESS. THANK YOU

Better Business Bureau,

 We have a very strict NO smoking policy for our rooms. There is also a sign in every room stating there will be a $150 cleaning fee. The room they stayed in was clearly smoked in. Our housekeeping as well as management checked that room. There were ashes as well as cigarette wrappers in the room. We have a very reliable staff and there is no question that there was evidence of smoking in the room. We have an
ozone filtration system used to eliminate odors, which we had to use in their room. We have decided to refund the customer the $100 damage deposit. We are not willing to jeopardize our reputation by their false accusations over $100.

 

Here is our damage and theft policy from our website that every guest is aware of when they book the room:

Security Deposit: All reservations are subject to a minimum $100 damage and theft deposit. Assuming no policies are broken and there is nothing missing and no damage to the room this security deposit will be refunded within 24 hours of checkout.

 

Also included is a picture of the signs that are clearly posted in every room.

Consumer Response: ALL PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN RESOLVED THANK YOU.. THE SEA CLIFF HAS RETURNED MY DEPOSIT...

I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does satisfy my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint.

Complaint: Booked hotel for Aug 13th-Aug 15th. Had to change rooms on the 15th d/t availability. On the 15th deposited the keys for first room , aware that we could not get keys or check in for second room until 3pm(no problem). However, returned to the hotel during storm @ 9:15 pm to have no-one @ office let us in. Stayed @ the Office door for several minutes and left returning around 10pm to find that again there was no-one to give us key , we were locked out! Left facility and went to friends home and called the hotel and left message, did not receive call back until next morning. Hotel insisting that we are being charged for the night because there was an emergency number posted on the door...There is no emergency number posted on the computer site! There was never any-one that tolds us that we had to check in by 9pm nor again nothing written on web site or confirmation. I am disputing the one night charge, my Visa is aware of this. Charge $210.00

Desired Settlement: Refund the charge

Business Response: Dear Sir/Madame:  We are very sorry to hear of this complaint due to the following:

1.  Our office was staffed and the manager was outside putting the cover on the pool. 

2.  We have the owner living on site and was here during this time frame.  Their phone contact was clearly visible on the sign that is posted on the door.  We shall attach a copy of the sign with the numbers so everyone can clearly view.

3.  All confirmations clearly state that if the customer is going to be later than 9pm that they must contact us.

In addition to the signage that is on the door, there is an emergency door bell which rings in the owner's apartment. 

If we can answer any additional questions, we will be more than happy to assist.

BBB's Final Determination: Business offered a resolution. Consumer did not pursue further with BBB and the matter was assumed to be resolved
