Complaint: I ordered a Christmas tree for my son who is serving in the Navy in Florida. The Sunrise County Evergreen web site showed a beautiful , full balsam fir tree. It stated that it would be 6 1/2 - 7 feet tall. The site stated it would "be cut at the last possible moment" to ensure freshness. My son received a skinny 5 foot tree that was brown in the middle and half dead. He called the company and were told it was because it had to be shipped so far. They are sending another tree that will not arrive until next Thursday but would not ensure it would not be in the same condition. My son and his wife have a 3 year old daughter with leukemia and a 1 year old son with cutis aplasia. These are the children I wanted to send a great tree to so they could enjoy the holiday with a real tree. The tree is now sitting in a bucket of water waiting to see what the new tree looks like. The children want to decorate their tree, hopefully they will be able to do that at the end of next week. My son was extremely upset at the condition of the tree because he knew how upset I would be. He called the company and told them his parents could not possibly see that tree when they arrived for a visit. He was upset, the kids are upset and we are upset. The tree shown on the Sunrise web site does not even resemble the tree that Sunrise sent. It is thin, brown and 2 feet shorter than they advertised.
Desired Settlement: I want Sunrise County Evergreens to replace the tree with a perfect tree that my grandchildren will love. I want them to replace the tree before next Thursday so that my grandchildren can begin their Christmas season. Right now I feel I have ruined part of their Christmas. I want a full refund from Sunrise County Evergreens. They have caused an unbelievable amount of stress in our family and have cost us time to call them and write to them.
Business Response: We received the initial complaint by telephone on the morning of Friday 12/03/2010. By noon that same day, we had reshipped a replacement at no charge to the customer. Four days later, on 12/07/2010, the customer notified us that she had filed the BBB complaint and that she wanted a full refund and not a replacement. We issued a refund the following day.
