Complaint: Lawn Tech installed my lawn sprinkler system and hydro seeded grass seed. The lawn looks great. However, Lawn Tech does not back up their product and does not show you how your sprinkler system works or the valves involved. They winterized my sprinkler system in the fall and again did not show me how things worked. They promised to be back in the spring to start things up again. April came and went and on May 9th I fertilized and started up the sprinkler system shutting all valves that were in sight. The next morning my basement was flooded with water. In talking with them they claimed to have tried to get in touch with me. I did change my phone number the first of May but they did not use my cell or email or even stop by to get the sprinklers going. They never did go over the system with me. They refuse to accept any responsibility for not showing me the valves or the system in the chance that something would happen. They turn out a good product but do not back up their service.
Desired Settlement: I fill they should pay for the restoration clean up of $2000. I am not asking for replacement of items thrown away.
When a needless accident like this happens, it is unfortunate for both the homeowner and the contracted installer. At LawnTech we seek to avoid these situations in every way possible which includes careful investigation into the matter and a fair resolution.
Our company successfully installed a sprinkler system and lawn for Mr ****** in 2012. As part of sprinkler system, a free winterization and spring startup for the system was included. The winterization was done in October 2012 at no cost and Mr. ****** was told that we would be back to free startup the system in the spring. Because of unusually cold overnight temperatures in April our company did not try to perform the startup until late April to prevent freeze damage to the backflow device. According to our records, we began calling to arrange the startup on April 25th but had to leave a message because of no answer. We tried again on May 6th with still no answer and left a message.
Without contacting us, a few days later Mr. ****** turned on the system without being familiar with valve details which comes with the startup and so the flooding followed. We seriously regret that this happened and have met with Mr. ****** twice to determine the exact cause and how it could have been prevented. We wish contact had been easier but both phone numbers we had for him had been disconnected and we weren't able to make contact. We have no record he called us about the startup prior to doing it himself.
Though our initial visit with Mr. ****** determined that we had been reasonable in our responsibility to properly perform the startup, as a matter of goodwill and acknowledging that we could have improved our instruction of the system to help prevent the accident, we are planning to help Mr. ****** with the cost of the flood damage.
We value our customers and hope our resolution with Mr. ****** will demonstrate it. We look forward to a followup response from him on our action to hopefully conclude the matter.
Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9538380, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I have met with Mr. Kim Johnson at my home and found him to be honestly concerned in improving the procedures that lead up to their part of the problem. We have resolved the matter to the satisfaction of the issue. I find them to be a good business and will recommend them to others.
