Additional Notes

Complaint: I hired Gary s Electric to re-wire my home in February 2012 I was charged 8500.00$ for the job!! Upon the remodel of my bathroom in April we discovered that the light fixture in our bathroom had been smoldering & there was absolutely no new wire in our attic!!!! It took numerous calls to get "Gary" to return to my home and than I was told that he had pulled his employees off the job & he forgot to finish my home!!!! Upon further investigation it was found that only 1 outlet in every room of my home was upgraded to the GSI outlets!! Nor were the proper permits filed with the department of building safety!!! Ive placed numerous calls to Garys Electric to fix the issues at my home but he will not accept my calls and or hangs up on me!!!! I have a signed contract written in Gary's own handwriting stating he will repay me the 8500$ but again he has not paid!!! I've had to file a compliant with the department of building safety!!! I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS CONTRACTOR unless u want you home to burn down!!!!!

Desired Settlement: I would like my money refunded so that I may hire a contractor to insure that my home is properly re-wired and safe for me and my family!!!!

Business Response: This is a letter in response to a customer complaint with the ** ** *******.
******** ******** states she hired me to re-wire her home. I did come out to her home at her request, and gave a bid for wiring listed out on enclosed work order. I did not meet with ********. I met her husband, ***. I looked over the wiring and gave a firm price of $8500, before any work was started. No where was it implied nor stated, that I was going to “rewire” her home, as in replace any or all old existing wiring in her home.

The bid was accepted on the spot and *** gave me a check, and I receipted the payment in full at that time. The work commenced 2 days later. The remodel of her bathroom, apparently including some wiring alteration after I was finished, was not mentioned to me, and apparently was done by an unlicensed uncle. The "smoldering" light fixture was a light fixture that through the years had too large of bulbs installed. The insulation had simply worn out. This is not uncommon. I might note here, too, that the old fuse box had over-fused circuits that would contribute to wiring getting over-heated and cause deterioration of old wires. That problem was taken care of with the circuit breaker change and adding additional dedicated circuits. All the circuits that were listed on the invoice were indeed ran with new wire, regardless of whether or not she or her uncle could see that.

I  DID NOT duck any calls from ********. I came out to her home at the very first cell I received from her. I had indeed thought the job was finished, before 1 got her call. The job was done, (minus the inspection) however, not according to ********. GFI outlets have a LINE/LOAD feature, which provides GFI protection down line, without having to install a GFI outlet at each location. Upon her demand, I did install additional GFI outlets at even; 110v outlet location. I also moved the routing of a conduit on the outside of her home, at her demand.

I did fall short on getting the permit on time. [I subsequently got the permit, and paid the double fees as provided by state law].
Her issues were immediately addressed, the State of Idaho inspection took place, and the job passed inspection. Her only calls going unanswered were her calls for more money to be paid back to her, than I have already paid to her.
Her signed contract written in my handwriting was signed under personal threat and business ruination. The circumstances of my agreement to pay back any money is of a very distasteful nature.
My first meeting with ********, was when I came to her home after the first call I received from her. She demanded $2500 refund at that time. I came out the next day with a few hundred dollars, and gave it to her. At that time I agreed to add the additional GFI outlets. They were installed by one of my men. I came out a few days later with additional $50 cash for her. At that time, she demanded $8500 and told me to write out an agreement to pay her back. She then called her husband outside, to sign the paper as a witness. Then ******** said she had to check with her sister in Fruitland, to get her to witness the paper. I apparently had given her sister and husband a bid for doing some wiring at their home earlier in the year. ******** told me if there was a problem with her sister, I could expect a visit at my home that evening. I am not aware of any "visit" from her, or her sister. All this time, I was kept outside, and then screamed at, and had the light fixture waved in my face. Told I picked the wrong lady to * with I was told I better pay up-, because I " know where you live” I was on my knees, crying for forgiveness, apologizing for doing a terrible job. AT THAT TIME I THOUGHT I HAD GIVEN THEM AN INVOICE THAT SIMPLY STATED "RE-WIRE HOME." In which case, all old wiring would have been done away with and not utilized. I had not been able to retrieve my copy of her job, before meeting with her. It wasn't until quite some days later, after my last cash payment to them, that I did retrieve my copy of exactly what was agreed to, on the work order. The work was gone over, line by line, inspected and passed by State electrical inspection.
At this time, I am not requesting any refund of the cash I have paid to them. I am not reporting unpermitted work done by her uncle. I am not pursuing any course of legal action for the way she has tried to obtain money from me.

Regarding her desired settlement, I did the work listed on the invoice. The work passed inspection. The work I did was safe. I can't vouch for work done after the fact, by relatives.
While I appreciate the work the ********** gave me, I believe the manner in which I was intimidated, after the job was done, is satisfaction enough of a settlement for ********.
