New Mobile App Designed to Notify Loved Ones During a Disaster

When disaster strikes, smartphones can be a lifeline. The first thing people want to do is reach out to friends and family and let them know if they are OK or what help they need. HelpBridge, a new mobile disaster response app from Microsoft, helps people get help and give help during a disaster.

BBB Mobile Giving Foundation is proud to be a partner and excited to help spread the word on this new mobile app. The HelpBridge app is designed to simplify the process of notifying loved ones during a disaster. When a disaster strikes, those not immediately impacted often want to help. HelpBridge makes that easy, too, by connecting you with some of the world’s leading disaster relief organizations and by providing multiple ways to help – text-to-give donations, larger contributions via PayPal, and even donations of goods.

There are three ways to donate via the HelpBridge app:

Text-to-give: For donations of $5 or $10, HelpBridge has partnered with BBB Mobile Giving Foundation to provide the listings of non-profits requesting monetary donation and to manage the payments. When you opt to text-to-give, the amount you donate is sent via text and added directly to your monthly phone bill.

PayPal: For larger donations, HelpBridge has partnered with GuideStar and Network for Good to provide a listing of donation opportunities with some of the world’s leading disaster relief organizations.

Donate Goods: In times of disaster, there are often specific goods that are needed. HelpBridge has partnered with Aidmatrix to provide a listing of relevant needs that you can sign-up to provide. HelpBridge connects you with the organizations in need to assist with the delivery of the donation.
