Most Acadiana businesses take pride in paying their bills on time to protect both their credit standing and reputation, but one company looks to take advantage of this good will to trick businesses into signing up for their services.
The BBB of Acadiana is alerting local businesses and employees to be on alert for misleading mailings from DNS Services, which appear to look like bills or invoices for Internet domain “cloud” services, after being made aware of DNS by local businesses.
Since September 2012, Better Business Bureau has seen a sudden increase in complaints on DNS Services of Vancouver, Wash.
The company currently has an “F” rating with the BBB. Factors that lowered D N S Services’ rating include the length of time business has been operating, 107 complaints filed against business, Failure to respond to 106 complaints filed against business and an overall complaint history with BBB.
The business has also failed to resolve underlying cause(s) of a pattern of complaints.
November 16, 2012, the BBB recognized a pattern of complaints from consumers regarding sales practice issues.

Consumers alleged they receive a notice from DNS Services that appears to be a bill; fine print revealed the notice is a solicitation for goods or services, but upon first glance, the document was misleading.
Businesses also claimed that when they attempted to reach the company by phone, they experience long hold times followed by the call being dropped.
Despite disclaimers that it is, ” …not a bill, invoice, or statement of account due …,” consumers said the statement dates, terms and account numbers made the solicitations look like past-due bills.
BBB reminds local businesses who received a solicitation from DNS Services to:
- Read the fine print carefully before paying for anything.
- Look for solicitation disclaimers that services are optional.
- Check the business books carefully or consult accounts payable staff; seek previous receipts or business agreements.
- Train employees not to agree or disagree to purchases unless they have permission and educate them to recognize suspicious calls, emails and letters.
