The company is expanding its Android operating systems to rice cookers, refrigerators and other home appliances. For example, the Google rice cooker will be able to identify the type of rice, and set cooking instructions. Other systems could send an alert from your washing machine to your television letting you know that your clothes are done.
The International Data Corporation predicts that the market for Internet connected devices will reach $2 trillion by 2015, which would explain Google’s reasoning for expanding into this market.
