Twinkie Talk & the Hostess Hysteria

Twinkie Guy 300x166 Twinkie Talk & the Hostess HysteriaHostess, a snack-cake company almost as old as the 100-year-old Better Business Bureau has announced that it will be going out of business due to a bakers’ strike. As a devoted donut lover, some thought it was important to inform me of the breaking news.

Home of the ever-famous Twinkie and other beloved snacks such as Ding Dongs, Ho-Hos, Sno Balls, Cupcakes and Donettes, the Hostess brand will be missed by many. The idea of no more Twinkies is causing panic all over the nation. How can we live without this frosting-filled delight?

Since Hostess is selling off its assets, there may be hope for the survival of Twinkies after all. How the brands will be sold is yet to be determined in bankruptcy court but many are hoping that some smart investors will find a way to keep the most favorite snacks alive.

Lucky for me, I’m actually not a Twinkie fan. I never have been. Being it that one of my mottos is, “never turn down a donut,” I do love Donettes and those will definitely be missed. I am aware of the power Twinkies have over us though. It reminds me of an episode of That 70s Show where, because Eric is being a jerk, Donna eats the one and only Twinkie he brought on their road trip. Eric gets really mad at Donna, even though later after they reconcile, he reveals it was just a “Twonkie” anyway. A knock-off.

Will you be able to settle for Twonkies or are you crossing your fingers for an investor? What are your favorite Hostess treats? What are your best (or worst) Twinkie memories?
