According to a Federal Trade Commission report, Skechers USA has agreed to pay $40 million to provide refunds to people who bought Skechers Shape-ups, Resistance Runner, Toners or Tone-ups shoes.
The report states that in 2008, the FTC filed a lawsuit concerning claims that Skechers violated certain state laws and consumer protection statutes in connection with the marketing and sale of their toning shoes.
If you purchased eligible Sketchers toning shoes since August 1, 2008, you may be a class member with limited exclusions if the court grants preliminary approval of the proposed settlement.
For more information on the matter or refund details, contact FTC’s Skechers Hotline at 866-325-4186 or visit the Sketchers Settlement website.

I purchased 3 pairs of Sketchers 2 pairs of work shoes, and 1 pair like a sandle shoe. Now from wearing the shoes for 3 years the bones in my left foot have shifted to the left. My foot and ankles swell every day, had to see foot doctor and get 3 shots of cordizone shots to relieve the pain. Now I need foot surgery to fuse my bones in my left foot. Now I have to buy new shoes every 2 months because they lean so far to the outside of my foot cant stand the pain. Cant get foot surgery right now because have no job or health insurance so daily I have to wear compression socks to help keep the swelling down, cant go barefoot anymore because they swell to much and to much pain. Before I wore these sketchers tonning shoes did not have any problems with my feet.

My back has been hurting because I have been doing alot of walking so I went out and bought a pair of Sketcher shape ups today. My back feels better already! After doing a little research on line, I realized that my lower back was so sore because my foot was turning out as I stepped which threw my pelvis and spine out of alignment. I had bought a pair of shape ups 2 years ago and remembered how they helped my back. When I went searching for them today, I didn’t realize that they had been recalled until a salesgirl informed me. The sole of shape ups I bought today are not as thick as the pair I purchased 2 years ago and I actually like them better. Works for me! Everyone is different.

Wow, you people are dense. READ the article, then post. Go to the website stated and linked IN THE ARTICLE ABOVE to apply for a refund.
And for those of you who like the Shape-Ups and want more… Wow. They’ve been recalled. They don’t do what they advertised that they do in fact they make it HARDER to do what is advertised because every time I wear mine I end up with a sprained ankle. Built like crap and advertised to shape and tone you up. Bull. I got mine as a gift from my mother, unfortunately they cost her nearly $80.00 and the refun I applied for is only about $40.00. Sad.

They have been recalled, BUT you can still get them on line. And if you actually follow the instructions that come with the shoes they can help and I’m living proof of it. Unfortunately they aren’t for everyone, same can be said about many shoes as I said in my post at the bottom.

I have been wearing Shape ups for three years. did not care if they made my bum tighter, but what I did get was a shoe that I could work long hours on my feet. I would be so sorry to lose these shoes. I have a corn on the ball of my foot. It can be removed but will return. Shape Ups was the only shoe that padded the ball of the foot as well as the heel.

I agree with Mona Gibson. Shape ups and toner shoes have been a god send for my numerous feet problems. I think where the company went wrong is promising a beautiful ass and the lawsuit result was right. Well, I notice my 200lb body is more toned.
Yes, I had a fall the first day I wore my shoes. Also, information pamphlets warned that you should gradually increase the time you wear your shoes.
I feel empathy and sympathy towards those who have been injured. However, I don’t support the decision based on injury. What about the shoe companies that sell 4 to 6 inch heels that cause back, foot and falls? Even Skechers have 3 or 4″ platform shoes and is anyone suing for injuries from high heels? .

I couldn’t agree more! These shoes have been an absolute God send for me and my 200 lb body! I work in retail, on my feet 10-12 hours a day on concrete, and thank God for these shoes, one pair lasts me exactly 6 months and then it is time for a new pair, but that’s ok no pain in my feet anymore. And yes, I feel much more tone all over as well!! Thank you sketchers

I’m an automotive technician and having to work in these shoes makes the day that much better. My legs don’t tighten-up and my lower back doesn’t feel as inflamed and the end of the day. I have been using Skecher’s Shape Ups and MBT’s for the last four years. I have had nothing but positive results. My previous back and knee pain is gone and I wear these types of roller sole shoes exclusively, even when jogging. If they don’t work for you don’t wear them…..but don’t ruin the opportunity for others to find pain relief by wearing this type of shoe. How many times in your life time have you bought a pair of shoes you didn’t like. I am now finding it extremely difficult to find the shoes to re-order. I am very dissapointed that it appears Skechers is discontinuing the line due to the lawsuit.

I love my sketcher shape ups. Just like other shoes, they may feel comfortable for some but not for others. Everybody’s feet are different. As for aches and pains, you probably had problems prior to using the shoes but the way your foot and body is built the shoe may have aggrevated the condition – NOT CAUSE IT!

I love how people blame these companies for everything!
I am flat footed and have numerous pains associated with that condition including hip pain, foot pain, unable to walk or stand for long periods of time and back pain. Under my doctor’s advice, I bought a pair of Sketchers. I love it and my hip no longer hurts constantly. I now own two pairs of Sketchers, one with the thicker bottom and one for “running”, which I do Zumba in. So far, I haven’t had any problem with balancing.
I have nothing but good things to say about these shoes.
Yes, they are different. Yes, they make you walk differently. Yes, they may not tone you up. But people should stop blaming the company for silly little things like falling, which may happen to you with or without the Sketchers.

I bought 3 pairs for myself and family in nov/11, at first wearing my pair, my right leg went numb for about 6 months at once or twice a week. Felt I was just braking them in. Just this past october, I suffered swollen knee and everytime I moved forward in the shoe the same right leg, that was numbb was also suffering from what it felt like bones separating from the knee cap. I hear a crack here and there. I used a pencil to rub the pain in the creaves of my knee. The pain/swollen went away as soon as I stopped wearing them. The only possitive effect that I notice from thesse shoes was that I walk a little firmer with my right foot. I could hear it and I stayed at paying attention to my walk. I believe a shoe should not make you hurt or seprarte your joints.
I do ask for a refund and I already filed at claim at https://skechers.action-settlement.com For the ones that got the other two dont even wear them, wasted.
Told them to hold on to them til after settlement passed. They also wont be going to goodwill, not worthy.

Not only have people filed lawsuits against Skechers for false advertising, but many of our firm’s clients have actually suffered injuries as a direct result of wearing the shoes. The shoes purposefully set the user off-balance. The idea was to help users engage muscles they don’t normally use, but as multiple studies have found the shoes offer no significant increase in caloric burn over normal sneakers. For anyone interested you can learn more about the Skechers lawsuit here.
We are currently taking these cases throughout the United States with no upfront costs or payment. We never charge our clients unless we win their case

I purchased a pair of Shape ups off of Amazon.com a little over two years ago. I wore them for months, walking many months in them for exercise. I developed Achilles Tendonitis in BOTH achilles. I’ve suffered now for two years, and every step I take is painful. I no longer can work out, excercise, and as a nurse I have lost hours on the job due to chronic pain. I’ve been going to the podiatrist and nothing has helped. I am now looking at surgery with three months off of work. I am seriously considering hiring a lawyer and suing this company on my own. I am not sure this can be done, but I am going to check into it. My entire life has been altered by the damage done to me from wearing these shoes. I do not have the money to take three months off of work for this surgery, and I do not have an income if I do not work. However, I have no alternative because now my tendons are developing tears from the chronic inflammation and it’s either the surgery or lose my ability to walk. Two weeks ago I woke up and couldn’t even put my weight on my left foot. This has been a nightmare!

I am soon to be 47, have been a cook in a pub for the past 4 yrs and have osteoarthritis in my feet, knee’s (1/3 cartledge left in left knee/ 60% right knee) , hands and elbows. Before getting my skechers 2 yrs ago I was 176 lbs and I would be in so much pain (feet/knee’s) after work that I felt like a 100 yr old woman hobbling around the house. 2 yrs later & a pair or 2 of sketcher shape-ups and my feet/knee’s no longer cause me any where near the pain they use to. Also after telling my knee specialist how much they reduced the pain and he checked me out, he said if it reduce’s the pain then its reducing the wear and tear on my knees. (cause once that cartledge is gone its off to get a plastic knee for me. =-( )
And just from following the INSTRUCTIONS that came with my shoes (I did do some 10 min stretching before any walking…just seems like common sense) and doing nothing other then wearing my Skechers every time I walk our the door I am now down to 129 lbs and my husband tells me I’m as hot as I was when I was 24. lol
I have bought shoes in the past that friends or family raved about how comfortable they are, but they just weren’t for me. The same goes for skechers, they aren’t for every body, but that doesn’t mean you should prevent those they do help from being able to get them. That in my opinion is just inconsiderate, selfish and just plain greedy. I guess the lawyer who posted on here is desperate for business, he couldn’t find a ambulance to chase.
lol My husband actually suggested last night while I was TRYING to find a pair of shape-ups that I like in my size online, that I file a lawsuit against those who are preventing me from easily (as in a local store, not online where I can’t try them on) acquiring that which makes my life less painful and a little more enjoyable.
Its something to seriously think about….

I wear them every day. This last summer, we did 5 days straight at Disney World – I never thought I’d be able to do that much walking without tremendous pain! I was amazed at the comfort provided from wearing my shape-ups. I was tired, but ready to go the next day without aching feet. I agree that false claims were made and they should be held accountable for that, but these shoes have been a lifesaver for me! Trying to find some more, as I’ve worn these out. OMG, you people are all nuts! High heel shoes are so horrible for your feet back, whole body! Yet they are so for absurd amounts of money and yet no one is sueing those companies for their injuries. It takes a bit of time to get totally used to these shoes because most people have bad posture. These shoes force you to walk in better form. The cushioning on them is amazing! These are the only shoes that I can wear all day on any surface and no pain anywhere. You can’t say that about heels ever. Yet young girls start wearing heels earlier no to accustom their feet early. So sad. I am sad these may not be available anymore.

these shoes are great. they immediately relieved the pain of my plantar fasciitis. have not had to have the injections for three years. I was practically unable to walk. I kept thinking if only I could get a shoe to fill in the high instep space I would be fine. My mom got me a pair of the mary jane style shapeups, not the cutest shoe and a little nursing homeish, but they worked instantly. If I become unable to get these shoes after a while I will have a shoe builder make me an insole that will fill in that instep for any price. Till then I will buy as many extra pairs of shape ups I can to keep as back up. Pain relief trumps great looking butt any day!! thank you sketchers and sorry for the nonsense other people have caused.

Wouldn’t it suck if peanut butter were outlawed because some people are allergic to peanuts! Millions of people have bought shoes over time that were not a good design ‘for them’ and have hurt their feet. This isn’t rocket science: Try ‘em once, take ‘em back and don’t buy ‘em again. For those of you who are not a good fit for Sketchers Shape Ups, I know it’s not your fault that the rest of us will be deprived of a product we really love and benefit from. It’s, in truth, our legal industry that has come to behave more like Wall Street – they turn some people’s unhappiness with a product into an opportunity to make millions! I join so many others in my extreme disappointment that I will no longer be able to purchase my Shape Ups. I’d gladly sign a liability waiver with the Sketchers company the same way I have to sign a waiver every single time my 4 kids participate in any of the many school sports they play. NOTHING is a right fit for everybody (no pun intended). To the Sketchers company: Please Please bring them back marketed just as another regular sneaker style. Please. We fans will buy them up and those who randomly try them only to discover they hurt will, like I said, take ‘em back after day one like we all sometimes have to do with any other shoe in life.
