Cash registers may become a thing of the past if the new Square Register app catches on, reports USA Today.
The app, created by the company Square, is a free app for the Apple iPad created to replace the cash register. The Square Register accepts both cash and credit, tracks customers’ purchases, and allows storeowners to preprogram menu items.
Square Register also includes an analytics program to track sales data.
Since about 75% of small businesses are projected to buy a tablet over the next year, according to market researcher NPD, the Square Register app could soon replace the antiquated cash register nationwide.
