Best Buy recently lowered the prices of the iPad 2 by $50. iPad prices now range from $449.99 (16 gig) to $779.99 (64 gig). Usually retailers lower their prices to reduce inventory in order to put new models on the shelves. This suggests that Apple may soon release the iPad 3 – some guessing as early as March 7th, according to the Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal.
Some suggest Apple itself may be cutting the prices of its tablets to level with its competitors who offer similar tablets for far lower prices. Amazon’s Kindle Fire sells for $199 and Barnes & Noble recently lowered the price of its Nook to match the $199.
So, is this a sign that the iPad 3 will soon be available? Or a general price-cut for Apple’s iPad to better compete with lower prices in the tablet market?
