As internet services, mobile devices and other gadgets continue to track our every move, President Obama is calling for tougher consumer privacy protection, according to The Detroit News.
In addition to proposing a “Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights,” the administration is also calling for consumer groups, tech companies, etc. to create new protections which will initially be voluntary. If companies decide to abide by those rules may be subject to sanctions incase of violations.
Companies are increasingly finding more ways to collect data on consumers’ habits and interests. For example, Google will begin to merge data it collects from email, video and social networking when someone signs into their Google account.
