Facebook has announced it has acquired the geo-location mobile service Gowalla.
According to Gowalla’s blog, Gowalla, as a service, will be winding down at the end of January. They plan to provide an easy way for users to export their Passport data, Stamp and Pin data (along with legacy Item data), and photos as well. Facebook is not acquiring Gowalla’s user data.
With 2 million users, Gowalla never reached the success its number one competitor Foursquare (10 million users) did.
It will be interesting to see what Facebook does with it.
