As bills pile up and consumers are unable to catch up with payments, more complaints about debt collectors are rolling in far faster than any other industry, according to federal regulators.
The Federal Trade Commission reports that the number of complaints about debt collectors rose from 104,766 a year in 2008 to 140,036 in 2010, according to USA Today.
The FTC has beefed up enforcement in the past 3 years and has taken 10 companies to court compared to 6 in the previous 3 years.
