Companies That Care

gold ribbon 150x150 Companies That CareI would like to recognize a few businesses today for good corporate citizenship: Spokane’s local news station, KREM 2, (in particular weatherman Tom Sherry) and Rosauers Supermarkets.

For the past 12 years, Tom’s Turkey Drive has provided low-income families with a chance to enjoy a holiday meal.

Numerica Credit Union, Franz Bakery, Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Deaconess Medical Center, and Rockwood Clinic are some other businesses I know about which support the drive. They deserve to be recognized.

Tom’s Turkey Drive is a tradition for hundreds of volunteers and thousands of donors. Last year’s turkey drive raised 11,000 turkeys complete with fixings to feed families throughout Spokane County and it is estimated that the need this year will not decrease.

It’s sad that there is so much hunger. We know that breadwinners in many families are struggling to make ends meet in the face of job losses, reduced work hours and other lingering impacts of the recession.

But it is encouraging to know that there are so many individuals and companies who care.
