The story highlights a victim of the scam, Robert Brant, whose home was recently placed on the market. Brant has had multiple people knock on his door claiming they will be renting his home after seeing an ad online.

The scam involves taking home listings, including pictures, and adding them to another website advertising that the home can be rented for $1,000. Interested renters are asked to send the money, and are promised keys to the home by mail.

The Metro New York BBB advises to do your research to see if the company is legitimate by looking for a physical address and phone number, as well as a legitimate license.
