Borders’ number one competitor, Barnes & Noble, is among the bidders who bought the intellectual property of the Michigan-based Borders Group Inc.
The information has not yet been made public as to what exactly Barnes & Nobel purchased but liquidators sold the trade names of Borders and Waldenbooks, the Borders.com website, Internet domain names and trademarks for $15.8 million, according to the Detroit News.
Borders filed for bankruptcy this past February.

Wow, this is so strange. I used to not be able to keep the Borders and Barnes & Noble names straight. Well now I don’t have to. It’s too bad about Borders going out of business, but what do you expect when you have 3 different CEOs in one year (Golden Parachutes, hiring bonuses, different directions…etc)? People need to have the patience to try one straegy and allow it time to work before ditching it in a panic and grabbing another. Still, maybe this will be good news for small independent bookstores. I hope so. Corporate bookstores have their place, but so do the little guys.
