In an effort to boost sales and memberships, Zipcar has partnered with Ford to release 1,000 Ford Focus compacts available on 250 U.S. college campuses, reports USA Today.
Ford will also benefit from the deal, giving access to its cars to potential buyers who may not consider a Ford otherwise. The Ford Focus features technology that college students might find appealing including “Ford MyTouch” and “Sync.”
Zipcar is also buying a number of Ford Escape SUV’s for their college program as well. These, along with the Focus models, will make up about half of Zipcar’s entire college fleet. The rental fee for these vehicles will be $7.50 per hour (including fuel and insurance) rather than the normal $8.50. The first 100,000 new Zipcar members will receive a discounted membership at $20 per year instead of $30.
