Dispatches From Scammerland: Burglars Lure Consumer With Gas Card

gas pump3 150x150 Dispatches From Scammerland: Burglars Lure Consumer With Gas CardThere are plenty of gas card scams floating around out there. Here’s one that ended up in the hands of the police department: This week an elderly lady received a phone call telling her she had “won” a free gas card for $100 and that she could pick it up at the grocery store.

When she got to the store, however, employees told her they had never heard of this company or its gas card.

Upon arriving home, she discovered that her house had been burgled while she was away, which was apparently the purpose of the call.

Remember: If someone calls you on the phone and says you’ve won something, always try to verify the information before acting on it. In this case a good option would have been to phone the grocery store, using a number you found yourself in the phone book or on 411.
