Cyber crime is at a record high exceeding last year’s 597 known cyber attacks, according to USA Today. Cybercriminals are actively probing corporate networks for weaknesses knowing that even the best in business are susceptible to cyber vulnerabilities.
The most recent attack made public was a major breach of customer account information against Citigroup Bank. Many businesses face unprecedented pressure to let everyone know when they’ve been hacked. This is the controversy surrounding the Citigroup hacking, which actually happened a month ago, and until last Thursday it wasn’t acknowledged to the public. According to USAToday, the breach was discovered during routine monitoring where it was found that names, account numbers, and email addresses were taken.
Other high profile breaches that have occurred during the last year include Sony, Google, Lockheed Martin, and Northrup Grumman.
