The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is the leading federal agency charged with ensuring the safety of consumer products. We protect families from risks of injury, death, fires and property damage from thousands of types of consumer products, including items that many of you use every day, such as computers, kitchen appliances, power tools, and air conditioners.
From the first day I took over as Chairman of CPSC, I have been committed to making the agency more open to the public and to families. Just a few weeks ago, we launched our biggest open government project to date. CPSC has unveiled a new publicly searchable database of incident reports that we receive about the use of consumer products.
The database is posted on the website SaferProducts.gov, and it makes available online for the first time the product safety reports we receive from consumers, public safety entities, medical professionals, and child care providers.
