data security 300x221 Internet Crime Complaint Center Issues Warning to Businesses Regarding Online Job Postings

The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) issued a press release last week alerting businesses of scam emails coming from online job postings. Scammers are responding to job e-mails with malicious malware that can infiltrate a computer, allowing the scammer to access confidential information regarding the company.

In a recent example, more than $150,000 was stolen from a business via unauthorized wire transfer due to a malware e-mail that changed the business’s account settings.

Before opening any e-mails from perspectives employees, always run a virus scan of all attachments. The FBI also recommends using a separate computer for financial transactions.

If you feel you are a victim of this scam, contact your local financial intuition, your local FBI office, and report it to www.ic3.gov.
