On October 23rd, your Better Business Bureau will host our 10th Annual Atlantic Business Ethics Awards. In addition to celebrating this year's finalists and winners, we'll also be highlighting the great companies we've recognized over the past ten years.

Some businesses go above and beyond the average in maintaining high standards of ethical behavior. They do what is right and fair, without questions, and without compromise. As the leader in advancing marketplace trust, your Better Business Bureau shines the spotlight on these companies, giving well-deserved recognition through the Atlantic Business Ethics Awards.

Do you know a business that deserves to be recognized? Nominating a company is easy. Just fill out the company contact information on the nomination form, and we'll take care of the rest.


 

Business Sector Criteria:

1. Be a company that is balanced in regards to people and profits.
2. Be operating for at least 2 years.
3. Have a sustained record of providing exceptional customer service and a quality product or service in the community.
4. Be recognized in at least one area of social/ecological responsibility.
5. Be a leader in providing ethical guidance in their industry or sector and/or have a presence of ethical leadership in the Atlantic Provinces.
6. Have ongoing and action-oriented ethical initiatives or programs, or social/ecological responsibility projects.
7. Have faced a recent ethical dilemma and shown integrity and ethical leadership in dealing with that particular challenge.
8. Have a record of sustained profitability.
9. Be a bridge between the profit and non-profit sectors.

Nominees should meet at least the first 6 criteria to be considered for the award. #5 may be less applicable for small businesses.

Non-Profit/Social Enterprise Sector Criteria:

1. Have a sustained record of providing exceptional service in the community.
2. Be operating for at least 2 years.
3. Be a leader in providing ethical guidance in the community or have a presence of ethical leadership in the Atlantic Provinces.
4. Be recognized for enhancing public awareness of social/ecological responsibility or serving as a respected advocate.
5. Have a mission that addresses a current social problem and fosters social and environmental innovation.
6. Members or employees have some say decision-making and/or governance.

Charitable Organization Sector Criteria:

1. Have a sustained record of providing exceptional service in the community.
2. Be operating for at least 2 years.
3. Be a leader in providing ethical guidance in the community or have a presence of ethical leadership in the Atlantic Provinces.
4. Be recognized for enhancing public awareness of social/ecological responsibility or serving as a respected advocate.
5. Have a mission that addresses a current social problem and fosters social and environmental innovation.
6. Registered charity according to Canada Revenue Agency.
