Information provided by the company indicates "The limited medical insurance benefits are not major medical insurance and are not intended to replace a traditional or major medical plan."
Major Medical insurance is described as where a consumer pays a deductible and the insurance pays the rest. Limited Benefit insurance is described where the insurance pays only a small predetermined amount and the consumer pays the rest. Limited Benefit insurance is not intended to give you the same type of financial security that major medical provides.
Only after you purchase your medical benefit plans are you transferred to an actual insurance agent who will then give you the full details of the policy.
The selling of these limited benefits is legal, however, consumers should use caution when purchasing these policies and understand fully the extent of the benefits of each plan and ask the following questions prior to purchase:
1.What is the difference between this plan and what major medical would cover?
2.I have pre-existing conditions. Would I be covered under this plan without any restrictions or waiting period?
3.What would be my deductible for a hospitalization, emergency room visit, doctor visits, specialist's visits, etc.?
4.Is this plan a prescription drug plan and are any drugs not covered?
5.Are you a telemarketer and are you paid on commission?
6.What is the name of the underwriter of the insurance policy?
7.Will you send me a copy of the policy for my review so I may make an informed buying/comparison decision?
8.If I change my mind, do you provide refunds, and if so, what is your refund policy?
9.May I speak with an agent of the underwriting insurance before I make a decision?
BBB met with the owner of this firm at which time we requested copies of recordings made between their employees and consumers which showed how they promoted their products. The company confirmed at the meeting that such recordings existed and said they would provide these recordings to our office. We requested six specific recordings and gave the company the names of the consumers. The company responded by stating no such recordings were available and that the only recordings made were between telemarketing firms and consumers and none that involved their firm.
