Complaint Category: Improper or inferior service

Complaint: I had a leak coming through my ceiling in my kitchen that needed to be fixed. I contacted Mr. Handyman to repair it. I met with the technician. There was a crack in the fiberglass at the bottom of the shower. Right away, without checking anything else, like the actual source of the leak at the ceiling, he tells me the whole shower enclosure needs to be replaced. I asked him more than once if some type of sealant could be put on it and he told me no. L ater on I find out from someone else there is a sealant they usevto repair fiberglass boats. This was not even offered to me and something I would have liked to try. And so the nightmare begins. The technician shows me the price list and tells me if they physically pick the stall out it is an extra 200 dollars in addition to the price of the stall. Uh ridiculous to say the least and No thank you! So I go to **** ***** to pick it out. I paid 395.00 for this stall and it was ready the day before they were coming to do the job. They did not pick it up the day before and was late because of picking it up. I was not there, but my tenants informed mevthey did not put a board down that was there before in the other shower before installation. I am aggitated because I want this done ONCE and RIGHT! Well later I get a call from my management company telling me they are sending a different guy there to redo what this one did. Are you kidding me? Why did you send the other guy to my house in the first place? My tenant also told me that the first guy was rude and acted ********** **** off when she wanted him to put on shoe covers to protect her carpet. So the next guy comes and it takes two different trips to completely finish everything. M y tenant said she believes the guy did run the shower, but obviously not long enough. My tenant said the shower was dirty and needed a thorough cleaning so she did not use it for a while. Her husband used it for the first time and she was in the kitchen and she noticed the water dripping from the ceiling

Initial Business Response
We were contracted by the owner to repair a leak. We found a crack in the fiberglass enclosure of the shower. It was clear the leak was coming from the crack. We cannot just repair the crack in a fiberglass enclosure. Experience has shown that this repair is only temporary and will quickly crack again. We replaced the fiberglass enclosure with the approval of the home owner. The house now has a new fiberglass enclosure. Everything was complete and checked out when we left the house and approved. When the new leak occurred, we were not called to come out to fix the issue. If we would have been called we would have come out for no charge to fix the problem. We provide a one year guarantee on all of our work.

Yes you installed the fiberglass shower and I understand that the other things might have been temporary fixes. Your handyman did not take the top cover off the drain like this last guy I got did. He showed me the crack and told me he would call you back and have you replace it. I do not understand why this was not caught. Refund me even though it is not exactly what I desire so I can be done with all of this.

Final Business Response
I understand that the leak came from the drain and that you did not trust my company to repair the leak. You did receive a new fiberglass enclosure which was the best fix your your crack in the enclosure. Any kind of repair of the crack without replacing the enclosure would have only been temporary.

I am willing to reimburse you for the cost of the drain repair which was $100.

Complaint Resolution: Company resolved the complaint issues. The consumer acknowledged acceptance to BBB.
