BBB Warns About a Company Called Assurance Com

May 16, 2014 - Little Rock, AR.   The Better Business Bureau serving Arkansas (BBB) has received numerous complaints recently from businesses across the U.S. regarding a company called Assurance Com that is billing for allegedly unauthorized Search Engine Optimization (SEO) services.

Investigations conducted by the BBB reveal that the address listed on the company website is a mail drop in North Little Rock, AR.  The company is not registered with the Arkansas Secretary of State nor do they have a business license issued by the city.

The complaints share a common theme: businesses are receiving collection calls requesting payment for SEO services they never purchased.  Complaints allege that when the business calls to dispute the billing an "altered" verification recording is played trying to convince the business that the SEO service was ordered.

Assurance Com has responded to complaints indicating that they have "irrefutable proof" that service was ordered; however, when asked by BBB to provide proof of contractual agreements as well as a proof of work done on behalf of the consumers, the requests have gone unanswered.

The BBB offers the following precautions when dealing with suspicious business solicitations or invoices:

  • Educate your employees about questionable invoicing for unsolicited services
  • Have a dedicated staff person responsible for solicitations and invoices
  • Keep a list of all verified contracts
  • If an invoice seems suspect, contact the business and ask for documentation
  • Check out a business before agreeing to terms and providing payment information by contacting the BBB at www.bbb.org
