Additional Complaint Information
In August 2013, BBB started receiving an increased number of inquiries and complaints about Public Pages, a company that claims to be located in Arkansas. Consumer complaints to the BBB allege that Public Pages bills customers on services the customers did not authorize. Consumers state that Public Pages calls businesses and individuals asking them to verify information regarding their "free" business listing. Consumers say they do not authorize Public Pages to publish a listing for their businesses and are then asked to answer a series of "Yes" or "No" questions, while the conversation is recorded. Consumers say they are billed for a Public Pages business listing. Complaints also allege that a Public Pages representative re-plays a recording of the individual agreeing to the listing, and saying "yes," but the complaints state that the consumer answered "yes" to a different question than the one that was played back to the consumer. The BBB has been unable to verify if the company is physically located in Arkansas or if they are simply using an Arkansas mailing address.
Consumers are also advising that representatives of Public Pages are informing businesses that threaten to file a complaint with the BBB that the BBB is no longer accepting complaints about Public Pages. This is inaccurate. Complaints against Public Pages can be filed at www.bbb.org and will be processed.
