Complaint: This company also does business as ****** ******* ***. Posting public information online they make impossible to have removed. They want a copy of your license, government issued id, us passport, us military id, state issued id card, employee id card from a state agency or a notarized identity verification form. This is for both of the sites they post on. I have tried to remove both my daughters and my name but I am not going to send them that information. I do not no of any other sites that request this information.

Desired Settlement: All and any records for my daughter ******** * ******* and myself ******** ******* removed and not to be added to any there sites in the future.

Business Response: Managing personal information through the Intelius opt-out service is just one step in eliminating its availability. There are many other sites that may provide similar information found on our site. Public records sites, search engines, social networking sites and other online companies provide different levels of information about individuals.

We have removed the requested information for ******** * ******* from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites.  However, we were unable to locate any listings for ******** *******.  If Ms. ******* can reply with the URL where she see her listing and indicate the city and state next to the listing, we would be happy to remove it.

We recommend Ms. ******* review our privacy policy located on the Intelius website at https://www.intelius.com/privacy.php.

Generally, we do require an individual’s identity to be verified prior to processing an opt-out.   To do this, we request that proof of identity be submitted along with the removal request.  Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver's license.  When uploading, faxing, or mailing a copy of a driver's license, we require that the photo and the driver's license number be crossed out.  However, we do need to see the name, address, and date of birth to ensure that all information is removed from our database.  If an individual does not feel comfortable faxing us their driver’s license or other state issued identification; they can send a notarized statement of their identity.

Additionally, it is important to remember that the Opt Out procedure is temporary.  Intelius is constantly updating their database with new public records.  It is possible that an individual may need to resubmit an Opt Out request for any new records that may have been added to our database since their last Opt Out request.  While we are unable to anticipate how, when, or if information will reappear on our site, we will be more than happy to remove an individual’s information upon request.

We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience.

Complaint: I called Intelius to ask for removal of incorrect information concerning one of the people listed on their web site. On their site it shows that ** ** has relatives listed as my late mother, myself and other members of my family. It also lists that she has lived at many of our family's residences. All of information is totally false. I asked an Intelius employee to remove this info and she said that ** ** would have to remove it. I explained that I believe ** ** *** have gone into my mother's mailbox after she passed away. I became the executer of my mother's estate and I soon started receiving mail addressed to my late mother's address ( forworded to my address) and then just to my address with ** **'s name on it. The rep from Intelius kept saying that she could not do anything about the issue so I asked to speak to her supervisor and I retold my whole story again to him and told him repeatedly that I believed that ** possibly went illegally into my mother's mailbox to retrieve mail and this is how she got the information. I finally thought I convinced him that what I was telling him was the truth and my and my late mother's info and my information would be removed but he said that my daughter(s) would have to call and remove the incorrect information themselves. Intelius has Not removed any information concerning my family: I.e. Names listed as relatives of ** ** or previous addresses of ** ** as of today. This is the only company that I have had trouble with. The other companys I contacted promptly removed the incorrect information immediately.

Desired Settlement: Removal of all of the incorrect information concerning any member of my family immediately. I also want to know how Intelius got this information. Did Intelius buy the information that they have on ** ** from someone: as in a telemarketers list? Did ** ** give Intelius this false information to Intelius herself? I want to know the truth as to how ** *** name got connected to my family.

Business Response: Generally, we do require an individual’s identity to be verified before removing them from our database.  We don’t want anyone to remove records of other people.  However, we will remove the requested information from our database.  We were unable to locate the individual which Ms. *** is requesting to have removed from our database.  If Ms. *** could reply with their full name and the URL where the individual appears and indicate which city and state appears next to the listing, we would be happy to remove it.

We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience.

Intelius asked me to provide the name of the woman whose records are incorrect in Intelius' database . It is ******* ****** who resides in Cocoa Beach, Fl. My family members are included as relatives of her which is NOT true. Intelius also associates ******* ****** with many of my family's addresses which again is false information. ******* ****** has not lived at any of the Iowa; Naples,Fl; Melbourne,Fl; Melbourne Beach,Fl addresses. Intelius can contact me directly to make sure all of my family's information is removed and disassociated from ******* ******.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me if they follow through and remove all of my family's information, the names and any addresses associated with my family members.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Also, I still want to know and require HOW Intelius got, ( bought) the information on ******* ****** that all the misinformation attached to her file. This is important to me as I want to find out conclusively how and why ******* ****** started including my family into her family history and records. Identity theft comes to mind or future robbery of one my family members. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter.
Sincerely,

Complaint: Multiple charges were debited against my account for a service that was never ordered.

Desired Settlement: The $4.95 and $7.95 charges to be refunded to my bank account.

Business Response: Intelius customers are presented with a two tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website.  They have the option of paying the full price, or a discounted promotional price which includes a 7-Day Pass of the Intelius Premier Membership.  When a customer selects the promotional price, they are presented the benefits of the membership and the terms and conditions of the offer, including billing.  By choosing to proceed with the purchase at the promotional price, the customer agrees to the terms and conditions of the promotional offer.

In this case, the promotional offer was accepted and the Intelius Premier 7-Day Pass was activated.

Additionally, while we provide preliminary search results for free, there is a charge associated with purchasing a full report.

We want you to be fully satisfied with your purchase from Intelius.  The Intelius Premier 7-Day Pass was canceled on 4/9/2015.  On 4/15/2015, a refund of $7.95 and $4.95 was issued for the Intelius Premier 7-Day Pass and the Social Net Lookup. The refund will appear on your statement ($7.95, $4.95) in one of the next two billing cycles, depending on the closing date.  Again, all charges have been refunded and no future membership charges will occur.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience.

Complaint: I received a phone call from this company. They refused to answer any of my questions i.e. Why do you need to know what state I access my e-mail from? Why do you need this information? He just kept repeating himself and when I didn't answer his questions he raised his voice and made the comment *** ** **** which I took offense to. I explained to him that I'd had many scam phone calls and my questions were reasonable and if this wasn't a scam he would answer my questions and if it is to hang up. He hung up. If someone like this is going to represent a company that the BBB accredits then I think BBB needs to re-evaluate.

Desired Settlement: My name taken of their list and the BBB to re-evaluate this company.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/02/05) */ Managing personal information through the Intelius opt-out service is just one step in eliminating its availability. There are many other sites that may provide similar information found on our site. Public records sites, search engines, social networking sites and other online companies provide different levels of information about individuals. We have removed the requested information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites. We recommend *** ****** review our privacy policy located on the Intelius website at https://www.intelius.com/privacy.php. Generally, we do require an individual's identity to be verified prior to processing an opt-out. If an individual does not feel comfortable faxing us their driver's license or other state issued identification; they can send a notarized statement of their identity. Additionally, it is important to remember that the Opt Out procedure is temporary. Intelius is constantly updating their database with new public records. It is possible that an individual may need to resubmit an Opt Out request for any new records that may have been added to our database since their last Opt Out request. While we are unable to anticipate how, when, or if information will reappear on our site, we will be more than happy to remove an individual's information upon request. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience.

Complaint: Today January 23rd, 2015, Intelius sent me an email stating they were canceling my service and to contact them if this was in error. I contacted them because it was an error, and they stated they were canceling my service with them due to non-payment. However, I have made a payment as agreed everymonth, as it comes directly from my ****** Wallet account. Intelius received their payment for this month on January 11th. They told me over the phone to contact ****** because they didn't get paid, however, when I did contact ******, they sent me proof as I already stated that Intelius was in fact paid on January 11th for my subscription service. I believe that Intelius is trying force me to double pay for the same service.

Desired Settlement: I would like my subscription service for their product that I have already paid for and continue to pay for reinstated, without them trying to force charge me an extra $9.99 this month when I have already paid for this month as proven in my receipts and ****** receipts. I would also like an apology and possibly a few extra months of service since I had to waste my time trying to explain this to them and told them I had the proof they got paid and they chose to ignore it and be rude by telling to contact ****** for their failures in keeping track of their own billing. Hopefully they can learn to actually listen to their customers and review the facts and evidence before refusing to listen and help their customers next time. Expectations: Reinstated subscription service immediately-Not doubled charged for this month -Few extra months of service for free for wasting my time and their rudeness-and an apology.

Complaint: This company is used to find people across the United States. It says that it provides up to date information on anyone that your looking for. I tried the trial version of it. Which involved giving my debit card info. Only to find out that I had to pay more to find recent information. When i Paid the extra fee. It said no current information available. I Am very mad. I called the company and got my money refunded. I"m calling the bank tom to make sure that no other funds were removed from my account. To me they offer a service that does not exist. They lied about the information that was available to me. Then charged me extra to find recent information that was not there. I searched my name. It came up as an address I havent lived at in almost 2 years. And gave a phone number that I've never had. I would really appreciate someone looking into this place. In my opinion it just seems like a scam. Thank you

Complaint: Intelius is email spamming my inbox with sales and advsertisting. Complaint: On October X XXXX I signed up for the 95 cent 7 day trial Intelius offers. I cancelled the account the same day using the link they provide. And even took what I thought was safety measures to ensure my credit card wouldn't still be charged. I originally registered using my active ******** ******* card but as a safety precaution for myself I changed my credit card information to an inactive MasterCard just in case the account wasn't cancelled and this company still decided to charge my card. I also never received any confirmation email from them but as the 7th day came and went then day 14th day came and went aside from a couple of promotional offers which I deleted I didn't hear anything from them and so I thought nothing of it and assumed everything was good and that my account had been cancelled as requested. Well on October 23 2014 which is 20 days after the original 95cent 7 day trial purchase I woke up to an automated text from my American Express card informing me that a transaction for $19.95 has been charged to my account. When I looked up my transaction history with them there was an unknown transaction from a company by the name of Inome and the transaction was done at 2:39am. I never heard of this company and called up ******** ******* to inform them that I never authorized this charge and have no idea who or what this company is; and asked the representative what this company was and he was unable to tell me. I then used Google to research Inome and discovered that it is actually Intelius. I then tried signing onto Intelius and was able to do so. Once inside I pulled up the purchase history and sure enough there's 2 payments there, the 95cents that I willingly and knowingly did, and the payment of $19.95 that I didn't authorize was there. However they have misleading information on both receipts. The receipt states that it was paid with a MasterCard when in fact my ******** ******* card was actually charged both times. This is also very confusing because both cards ends in different 4 digit numbers. I was under the impression that a company cannot keep your credit card information on file without your consent, and I took the steps to ensure my account was cancelled and to protect my credit card from continually being used by this company. Yet I have the transaction history from my ******** ******* card that shows the transactions from Intelius the one I authorized for Intelius which was only 95cents, and that clearly states on the transaction report the name Intelius. And I have the unauthorized transaction that was fraudulently processed to my credit card by Intelius which is under a name that is completely different from the one on the purchase receipt that I pulled up. I did another cancellation today but due to the fact that I was still charged after doing it the first time I have no trust in this company and don't believe that they would honor my request the second time around.

Desired Settlement: I want this company to remove my all my personal information including my credit card(s) from their database. And refund me the unauthorized $19.95 charge that they took from my American Express card.

Complaint: On the morning of 10/30/14, I paid $19.95 for a criminal background check on a family member that I know has a prior record. The only thing the so called full report provided me with was the person's name and age. I've pulled up the same information for free in a Google search. When I called later that afternoon to request a refund because the report provided was incomplete and consisted of barely any information, I was told by a customer services representative that the reports only provide the information that their website has available! Therefore, I wouldn't be able to receive a refund. Isn't this admitting false advertising if they're claim to update their information using national criminal databases? Yet, they can only really provide whatever basic information they have in their database.

Complaint: Intelius got our credit card #, withoutb our permission or knowledge, and began monthly charges of $19.95 for we know not what. When we contacted Intelius and asked them to stop, they tried to get more personal financial info. We canceled the card and got another. They got our new # and continued to bill. These actions seem illegal to me.

Desired Settlement: Stop billing. Reimburse Visa for previous charges.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2014/09/30) */ Intelius customers are presented with a two tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website. The response is inaccurate when it states that I accepted the promotional offer from Intelius. I have no knowledge or memory of contacting or contracting with Intelius for any service. Somehow Intelius got my credit card number. In an attempt to stop these charges, I canceled my first credit card. Intelius somehow got my replacement card # and the billings continued; I was forced to cancel a second card and take even more restrictive steps to prevent additional charges. It appears to me that Intelius is operating an internet scam operation. Complaint: I am a 10 years old girl and this site publicize my contact information in their web site. http://www.publicrecords.com/people-search-records/******-*****

Desired Settlement: They should remove my name and contact info from their website.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/09/15) */ Managing personal information through the Intelius opt-out service is just one step in eliminating its availability. There are many other sites that may provide similar information found on our site. Public records sites, search engines, social networking sites and other online companies provide different levels of information about individuals. We have removed the requested information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites. We recommend Ms. ***** review our privacy policy located on the Intelius website at https://www.intelius.com/privacy.php.

We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience. Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2014/09/08) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) It is not clear why a single opt-out request is not sufficient for the company to PERMANENTLY remove the information. It is not clear at what frequency a consumer needs to re-submit an opt-out request - 1 minute, 1 month, 10 years? The privacy laws are for protecting consumers privacy and not for convenience of unethical company's business. A single opt-out request should be sufficient for PERMANENT removal of information. An opt-out request is an expression that an individual does not want his personal information, public record or not, to be used in the company's business - permanently, or until notified otherwise, - not just this given instance and not the next second. I consider the company's response a simple write-off and the clear indication of company neglect to adhere to privacy laws and standards of ethics. Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2014/09/16) */ Intelius solely collects and compiles the public records and publicly available information. As requested, Intelius has removed Mr. ******'s information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites. Complaint: Intelius tricks consumers into signing up for a monthly $19.95/month subscription when the consumer thinks they are signing up for a $.95/cent background check. Then they start taking your credit card payment monthly without providing any information accordingly.

Desired Settlement: I want a refund of the first month's subscription ($19.95).

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/09/15) */ Intelius customers are presented with a two tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website. They have the option of paying the full price, or a discounted promotional price which includes a 7 day pass of the Intelius Premier Membership. When a customer selects the promotional price the benefits of the membership and the terms and conditions of the offer, including billing, are described in detail. By choosing to proceed with the purchase at the promotional price, the customer agrees to the terms and conditions of the promotional offer. In this case, the promotional offer was accepted and the 7 day pass of the Intelius Premier Membership was activated. As requested, the Intelius Premier Membership was canceled and on 09/10/2014 a refund was issued for $19.95 for the most current membership charge. On 09/15/2014 the remaining membership charge of $19.95 was also refunded. The refund will appear on Mr. ******' statement ($19.95x2) in one of the next two billing cycles, depending on the closing date. Again, the Intelius Premier Membership has been cancelled and all charges have been refunded. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience. Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2014/09/18) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) I accept the refund. Thank you. However, at the time I "subscribed" I actually believed I was paying a .95 fee for the search. It says "Make Your Selection" to get the .95 "Special Offer" - but to know that you are actually paying for a long term subscription, you have to dig in. I believe this is deceptive marketing.

Complaint: I am trying to have my personal information removed from this database. In order to do this, I am being advised that I must FAX a copy of my license, state ID, or other gov't issued identification over to them. They require my name, ADDRESS, and date of birth. So, why would I ever agree to fax them the correct information when they want to sell it to people? This is a violation of my rights. I ordered phone report for $4.99 ( Order id XXXXXXXX) , while ordering this , Intelius website, suggested, I should also add, Current Phone and Address Check Report for $ 7.95, to see latest record of phone and address. So I ordered that one also , whose Order #XXXXXXXX. Surprisingly they just gave me , cell phone numbers owners name (as per order XXXXXXXX) and said, they did not provide any further info like latest number and recent address(as per XXXXXXXX). To get more details , they suggested to order complete backgroud report for cost of $49.95. They said backgroud report, will have all the details like marriage records of the person etc. They also said, texas is a state, where this person lives, is a state, where marriage records are available. SO I ordered Backgroud Report with order id - XXXXXXXX. To my surprise again, they said, they were unable to find marriage record of the person. In the end after spending $ 62.89($4.99 + 7.95 + 49.95), what I got was already available in their first report of $ 4.99. I think, this are complete bad practices. Complaint: They advertise the phone lookup service as being for free on Google searches. When you get to their first web page and take the time to enter the number you are still under the impression that the service is free. After they find the name and address associated with the phone number THEN they tell you it's a pay service. This is at best intentionally misleading if not out-right fraudulent. I'm disappointed that they would be allowed to post the BBB logo when they are obviously an unethical company.

Complaint: I want my information removed from their database, I find it ridiculous that I need to fax a copy of my driver license showing my name , address, and birthdate I. order to have my info and names of my family member off their site as being available to purchase more info on me. I never signed up for this company that I know of and believe my information is being obtained since I have to be licensed to practice in ca for my profession

Desired Settlement: remove all my info from your database so it does not show up in database, I will not fax you my license, I don't know who you people are

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/06/10) */ Managing personal information through the Intelius opt-out service is just one step in eliminating its availability. There are many other sites that may provide similar information found on our site. Public records sites, search engines, social networking sites and other online companies provide different levels of information about individuals. We have removed the requested information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites. We recommend Ms. ******* review our privacy policy located on the Intelius website at https://www.intelius.com/privacy.php. Generally, we do require an individual's identity to be verified prior to processing an opt-out.

Complaint: Misrepresentation, unclear advertising, clarification not offered. I attempted to use on-line *********** to trace a number. On the "***********" was a "people finder". I understood it to be a 99 cent trial offer, with no further obligation. On February 5, 2010 my credit card was charged twice. Once for 99 cents and the second for $19.95. Then on February 12, 2010 through May 12, 2014 on the 2nd and the 12th of every month I was charged $19.95 for a total of $39.90 (unfortunately I only discovered this days ago when my credit card was lost and I cancelled it). I used the service once and was under the impression that it cost 99 cents and was now unsubscribed. I attempted to use the service a second time on March 25, 2011 and contacted customer service by phone as I couldn't get it to set up an account which this time was a deal for $4.49. The representative walked me through the process. I have just discovered that on that date I was charged $4.49 the separate times that day in addition to the $19.95 charges mentioned above. I phoned a few days later as I continued to receive email and made sure I had properly unsubscribed. The representative assured me that I had. What I did not realize, nor was I informed, that I had more than one account and that each account has to be unsubscribed separately. Ridiculous. I used a service twice expecting to pay less that $5.00. Instead I have paid well over $1000.

Desired Settlement: Refund my money minus the two times I used the service. Customer Service that clarifies the entire services being charged to their customers.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/06/20) */ Intelius customers are presented with a two tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website. They have the option of paying the full price, or a discounted promotional price which includes a free trial of the Identity Protect Subscription offered through Intelius. When a customer selects the promotional price, they are redirected to a full page display that describes in detail the benefits of the membership and the terms and conditions of the offer, including billing. By choosing to proceed with the purchase at the promotional price, the customer agrees to the terms and conditions of the promotional offer. Additionally, Intelius customers are presented with a single page display offering enrollment in the People Search Membership and True Rep Membership. When customers accept the offer they enter their email address as an electronic signature and select the "Yes, Show My Report" button to confirm their acceptance of the offer. The customer can also decline the offer by selecting the "No, Show My Report" button. All of the offer details and benefits of the memberships, including billing, are listed on the offer page. In this case, the promotional offers for the Identity Protect Subscription, the People Search Membership, and the True Rep Membership were accepted and the memberships were activated. As requested, all memberships have been canceled. On 06/20/2014 a refund was issued for all membership charges in the total amount of $1,505.75. The refund will appear on Ms. ********'s statement ($19.95x66 & $9.95x19) in one of the next two billing cycles, depending on the closing date. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience. Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2014/06/24) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.) It is an appropriate reaction to the situation. It reflects an attempt on behalf of the business to offer satisfaction to their consumers. I respect and appreciate their decision. Thank you.

Complaint: I had the premier membership and also paid for a criminal check for my boyfriend. Both my info and his are so old it's sad. MY info was over 10 years old. And his, which we know he has one just wanted more info on came up blank with no records returned. I believe this company isn't following through on what they say they do. I have tried to reach them via email and Facebook with no avail.

Desired Settlement: I would like them to provide with more accurate info. If you are going to charge someone for a service the service should be accurate and more current than 10 years ago. I

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/06/09) */ Intelius' policy is to use all applicable means to deliver the information service to our customers. The information we provide is gathered from selected public records and other sources. Local, state and federal agencies make updates to public records. The information can come from sources such as: marketing surveys, land deeds, catalog purchases, voter registrations, lawsuit filings, court records, magazine subscriptions, and address changes. This data is compiled into a comprehensive public record search that Intelius maintains with active updates from its sources. We want ******** ***** to be fully satisfied with their purchase from Intelius. Since they were not completely satisfied with the Criminal Report purchased from Intelius, we have processed a refund of $19.95 to their account on 06/09/2014. Complaint: A friend suggested I should Google myself periodically. I did and found Intelius' report on me indicating some correct information--enough to know it is my profile--but the majority of the information is incorrect. When I went through their Contact Us steps I received an auto-reply indicating that I must send them a photocopy of my ID (blocking out picture and ID number) but including my address and such in order to opt out.

Desired Settlement: inome, inc., dba Intelius is a data mining institution. I feel it is THEIR responsibility to correct--preferably remove--my information from their website. I do not want to copy and send my identification card to anyone, let alone a data-mining company such as them to be further misused. I think Intelius should be responsible for the information that they are posting and offering for sale. I am looking for a job, although I didn't see anything incriminating in the information viewable for free, there were several companies listed that I never worked for and the college listed is not one I have attended. Heck, they even listed ************************** as a place of employment--I was a member, but I certainly never worked there nor does ***** website indicate that I did. I shudder to think what goes through the minds of anyone trying to do background checks and coming across such divergent information. No wonder there have been so many tragic consequences of day cares and whatnot who claim to have done background checks on employees only to find out later that they missed something significant--the background check is only as good as the information going into it. Thank you for your consideration.

Complaint: I would like to file a complaint against Intelius. For the last 25 months, my credit card was charged 19.95 a month for a one time search purchase. At no time was I aware of or did I authorize the monthly charge. I never was aware that I had the service, I never had a user-sign on, and never authorized this. I feel all of these charges are fraud. I was only made aware of the issue within the last few days from the credit card company. I have never used the service either. All of these charges should be reversed.

Desired Settlement: I am seeking all of these charges be reversed and credited back to the initial credit card charged. I have blocked future transactions and placed a fraud alert related to these 25 transaction X 25 times. The amount of credit I request is $498.75. Complaint: Ino*Intelius made two separate charges to my credit card account on 04-14-2014. Neither purchase was made by me nor anyone authorized to use my account. None of the information provided to Ino*intelius matches my information including: name, address, email address. The only information that was correct was the credit card account number. The credit card account in question was less than two months old. Contacted Ino*Intelius and they stated they would remove charges as it was obviously "a mistake." To date the charges remain on my account. I contacted my credit card company and they are "looking into it."

Desired Settlement: I would like the fraudulent charges made to my credit card on 04-14-2014 and posted on 04-15-2014 to be refunded. I would also like Ino*Intelius investigated for making fraudulent charges to my account - as it is "obvious" by their own statement that neither me nor anyone associated with me made these charges.

The refunds will appear on ******* *********'s statement in one of the next two billing cycles, depending on the closing date. Complaint: On April 10, 2014, I visited ************** to do a reverse phone lookup. I was redirected to Intelius.com for a full report. I purchased the report for the advertised $0.99 price, and upon purchase received a notice that I would receive premium membership at that point. Not wishing to obtain a membership or incur any additional charges, I immediately called their customer service number and spoke with a representative. After I expressed my concern, the representative assured me that I would not be charged a penny more than $0.99, but she offered me a gift card package worth about $300 for only about $4.00. I declined the gift card offer and the representative then stated I would not be charged for the gift cards either, but her manager would have to confirm these details and I needed a confirmation number in order to ensure that I would receive no further charges. Upon speaking to the "manager," I explained the same thing to him. I explicitly expressed that I did not want to be charged anything other than the $0.99 for the initial report. The manager then told me repeatedly that I did not say I didn't want any additional charges to the previous representative, which was a lie. I re-explained to him that I did not want to be charged anything additional and he became indignant and rude, telling me to "enjoy the monthly charges." I then told him I did not want monthly charges, and he stated that in order to make sure I did not receive any charges, I had to listen to three recordings and repeat my information and say "ok". Three recordings proceeded to play, which the representative would cut off at certain points and I was to just say "ok". After 20 minutes of attempting to make sure I was not charged anything other than $0.99, I was ensured that because I completed the process, I would not be charged any additional fees, nor would I be obligated to have any memberships or gift cards from any other companies. From April 12-14, I received several charges to my card listing Florida as the point of sale. I live in Georgia and have not been to Florida recently, nor do I have any idea what these companies are, and I did not authorize any of the charges. I called the 800 number listed next to one of the charges, and was told that I had verbally authorized the charges and was recorded doing so. This is completely false, and I did not authorize any additional charges to my card. This company is making fraudulent claims against me for items I did not authorize payment towards. I spoke with my bank and was told that one of the companies is listed as some sort of sports membership; another is an automobile union; and they were unsure about the others. The business practices, sales practices, and customer service for intelius.com are beyond deplorable.

Desired Settlement: I have been inconvenienced, lied to, and taken advantage of. Their company should not be allowed to do this to anyone else. I am writing this complaint in hopes that further action will be taken to prevent others from being targeted by this scam. I want a complete refund of all monies dispensed as a result of my use of intelius.com.

Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/04/21) */ We have reviewed the details provided by Ms. *****. After reviewing Ms. *****'s Intelius account it appears that the only billing was for a transaction of $0.99. This pending charge of $0.99 was cancelled on 04/10/2014. Additionally, the Intelius Premier Pass was canceled on 04/21/2014 and we received no successful billing. There will be no future charges. Based on Ms. *****'s description of her billing statement, the products she was offered, and her interaction on the phone, it sounds as though she had contacted a different company. Since we are solely internet based, all transactions are done online and are user-initiated, meaning that we do not accept payments over the phone. Additionally, we have reviewed the account and have confirmed that no phone representatives from Intelius accessed Ms. *****'s account. Since all charges from Intelius have been canceled, we suggest that she contact any other company charging her directly. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience.

Complaint: I want my personal information OFF of their site and they require you to fax proof of ID. Not only does my ID not show the information they want (they have my birth date wrong), but I'm not faxing my driver's license to some company I have never heard about. This is their procedure: In order for us to suppress or opt out your personal information from appearing on our Website, we need to verify your identity. To do this, we require faxed proof of identity. Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver's license. If you are faxing a copy of your driver's license, we require that you cross out the photo and the driver's license number. We only need to see the name, address and date of birth. We only use this information to process your opt out request. Please fax to XXX-XXX-XXXX and allow 7-14 days to process your request. We will only process opt out requests received by fax and no request will be processed without complete information (i.e., name, address and date of birth). Requests for opt out will not be processed over the phone or via email. Complaint: Back on August 27th, I did a Google search for a person who's phone number I wished to look up. Any results I clicked on led me to the Intelius.com website. They site claimed to have a phone number for this individual, but that in order to obtain it, I had to pay a one time charge of 25 cents. Well after I submitted my credit card and email address and paid the 25 cents, the site didnt even have the phone number as promised. I didnt care because it was only .25 and I never gave it a second thought. On December 15th I was looking over my bank statement and noticed a charge on Dec 2 from INT*US Search Services XXX-XXX-XXXX WA for $49.95 and was not familiar with. I went back and noticed another charge of $49.95 from the same company on August 30. I called the number to see who they were and what it was about. They claimed that it was a quarterly membership fee from when I did the 25 cent search on Aug 27! I only authorized to be charged 25 cents for the phone number lookup. I was never prompted to accept or decline a membership, and it was never clearly stated anywhere when I approved to be charged the original 25 cents. This was done without my knowledge or consent!! Upon researching this company, I discovered there is a class action lawsuit against them in the state of California, over 100 complaints to the Washington state Attorney General, over 900 complaints to the BBB, and hundreds of consumer complaints online also accusing this company of sneaking charges to their accounts with their knowledge or consent! I called my bank and the woman stated that they would not be able to dispute the charges from August because its too far back, as they are only allowed to issues credits 90 days back. Then upon further investigation from the bank, she informed me that its supposedly buried in the fine print in the website's terms and conditions that when you use a service, you automatically sign up for their membership. She said because its stated that she has no grounds to dispute the recent charge and that what they are doing is perfectly legal. Further she said I would have had to call to call my supposed membership at some point before the charges, and then they could file a dispute if they had continued to charge me. Its pretty difficult to cancel something that had no knowledge of in the first place! I think this company purposely sneaks hidden charges onto people's accounts hoping they will never notice. That is stealing! I personally could not find any statement in the terms claiming that if you use one service that you automatically consent to sign up for a membership , and I was never presented with their terms when I originally agreed to pay 25 cents. Even if its stated in their terms, I still believe that this is a deceptive and misleading business practice and they should be out of business!

Desired Settlement: I want my money refunded for a total of $100.15!!

Complaint: I purchased a reverse phone information for $4.95 when I checked out they added a Intelius Premier Membership with a monthly price of $19.95. Since I was going to use a few more searches, I did not complain. when I tried a e-mail search, is suppose to be unlimited and free with my membership, they wanted to charge me $4.95. I wrote them, they asked me to try again and select "use credits" I did the search twice, there was no "select credit" only a charge of $4.95, so I wrote them, asked for a refund since they were going to charge me a fee, so I did not need this month membership. I have wrote them twice, with no answer, so I wrote a third time, letting them know I was going to file a complaint with the BBB. Product_Or_Service: monthly membership Order_Number: XXXXXXXX

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund refund of my $19.99 purchase an deletion of my membership of monthly services.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response /* (1000, 6, 2013/07/16) */ Intelius customers are presented with a single page display offering enrollment in the Intelius Premier Membership. When customers accept the offer they enter their email address as an electronic signature and select the "Yes, Show My Report" button to confirm their acceptance of this offer. The customer can also decline this offer by selecting the "No, Show My Report" button. All of the offer details and benefits of the membership, including billing, are listed on the offer page. In this case, the promotional offer was accepted and the Intelius Premier Membership was activated. As requested, the Intelius Premier Membership was canceled on 07/14/2013 and a refund was issued for $19.95. The refund will appear on Mr. *****' statement ($19.95) in one of the next two billing cycles, depending on the closing date. Additionally, Intelius' policy is to use all applicable means to deliver the information service to our customers. Complaint: I tried cancelling my account with Intelius and deleting all my personal information, including my credit card number. I called the phone number posted on the company website (XXX) XXX-XXXX) and it went to a completely different company. The person on the phone told me to write a complaint with the BBB because they received frequent calls from people trying to reach intelius.I called another number for Intelius customer service. I spoke with a person who identified herself as "******." ****** told me that though the company was cancelling my account, the company refused to delete my credit card information. "******" repeatedly told me that the company would retain my credit card information regardless of my demand that the company delete it. Product_Or_Service: Background check

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation) I simply want the company to delete/destroy my credit card information so that it cannot charge my account without my permission. I also want all my personal data deleted from Intelius.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response /* (1000, 5, 2013/06/21) */ Intelius keeps all customers billing information secured and encrypted. The billing information is unable to be seen in the system, it is truncated for security. Unfortunately, the billing information is unable to be removed. Additionally, we have removed the requested information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites. Consumer's Final Response /* (4200, 11, 2013/06/28) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The phone number that Intelius has provided (again) is actually the number of Prange Intimate Apparel. You can see Prange's website here: http://prangeintimates.com/ You can see that the phone number Intelius posts is displayed on a website that sells women's lingerie. So instead of trying to resolve my customer complaint, Intelius is directing me to buy women's lingerie. Do I need to explain any further why I do not want my credit card information in the hands of Intelius? It is simply a lie that Intelius is "unable" to delete my private electronic data. All electronic data can be deleted - Intelius is just refusing to do so without explaining why. I'm not interested in Intelius's hollow apology. The company does not even know its own phone number and yet it is ridiculously stating that my billing information is "secured and encrypted." JUST DELETE MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION! Business' Final Response /* (4000, 13, 2013/07/02) */ Our TOLL FREE Customer Care phone number is (XXX) XXX-XXXX. Complaint: I never signed up for their Premier Membership. I have never submitted any information or have had any involvement with this institution. They are posting my personal information on their website. I have contacted them to have the information removed but they want more personal information from me to remove it.

We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience. Consumer's Final Response /* (3000, 7, 2013/05/14) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I do not agree with the policy. I did not choose/elect to have my personal information collected and made easily available. This institution then makes their own policy requiring constant participation/ additional personal information and/or money to opt out. This company is also publishing information about me that is normally difficult to obtain regardless of whether or not that it is public information or not and then offering it to anyone for a few dollars. Criminals and my past disgruntled employees so that they may kick in my door since now they can find it. Then the company offers protection for a price to "supposedly" guard privacy for a price. I would not be personally involved in this if this has not already caused me grief. I have found a legal team that is pursuing legal action against this institution for these actions. I am in the process of contacting them to add my name to the list. Business' Final Response /* (4000, 9, 2013/05/15) */ Managing personal information through the Intelius opt-out service is just one step in eliminating its availability. There are many other sites that may provide similar information found on our site. Public records sites, search engines, social networking sites and other online companies provide different levels of information about individuals. As previously stated, we have removed the requested information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites. Again, we urge Mr. ********* to review our privacy policy located on the Intelius website at https://www.intelius.com/privacy.php. Furthermore, Intelius does not charge a fee to Opt Out of our website, as well as affiliated sites. We do require an individual's identity to be verified prior to processing an opt-out. If an individual does not feel comfortable faxing us their driver's license or other state issued identification; they can send a notarized statement of their identity. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response /* (1000, 7, 2013/04/22) */ Managing personal information through the Intelius opt-out service is just one step in eliminating its availability. There are many other sites that may provide similar information found on our site. Public records sites, search engines, social networking sites and other online companies provide different levels of information about individuals. Intelius solely collects and compiles the public records and publicly available information. Local, state and federal agencies make updates to public records. The information can come from sources such as: marketing surveys, land deeds, catalog purchases, voter registrations, lawsuit filings, court records, magazine subscriptions, and address changes. We are more than happy to remove Ms. ******'s information from our database however; we are unable to identify which information Ms. ****** is referring to. Providing the specific hyperlink where the information is appearing on our website and indicating which listing she would like removed is very helpful. We ask that we be provided; first name, last name, and at least a middle initial. Additionally, date of birth and previous addresses are extremely helpful as well. If previous address information is not available, city and state will certainly help. We recommend Ms. ****** review our privacy policy located on the Intelius website at https://www.intelius.com/privacy.php. Additionally, it is important to remember that the Opt Out procedure is temporary. Intelius is constantly updating their database with new public records. It is possible that an individual may need to resubmit an Opt Out request for any new records that may have been added to our database since your last Opt Out request. While we are unable to anticipate how, when, or if information will reappear on our site, we will be more than happy to remove an individual's information upon request. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this issue and apologize for any inconvenience. Consumer's Final Response /* (4200, 21, 2013/05/09) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The temporary removal of the information still does not stop the problem - bad information. The information is BAD, WRONG, FAULTY, FRAUDULENT - it is the cause of harassment and damaging to my credit, my reputation, my family's reputaion. Just like the case of showing MY as 82, it's just wrong. I would like it corrected. IF there is some documnent(s) available, please let me know so that I can have it corrected in order to get this stopped. Business' Final Response /* (4000, 24, 2013/05/13) */ Intelius upholds their database with public records and publicly available information. We do not have the ability to update information since we do not maintain the records that we use to generate our reports. Since Intelius collects and processes billions of these records, and due to contractual arrangements, we are unable to provide the source of our information. Public records are available from government agencies at the local, state and federal levels. If an individual wishes to update information contained in official public records, we suggest that they contact the government agency responsible for maintaining those records. Publicly available information is comprised of information such as names, addresses and telephone numbers of individuals and businesses. Publicly available information also includes commercial records, which consist of information that is maintained by enterprises and is available for purchase, such as marketing and telemarketing lists, phone connect and disconnect information, and business profile data. Complaint: I went online to Intelius.com to do a background check on myself. I typed my name (******* Y. *******) into their database and another person named ******* ****** ******* age 47 pops up. Intelius has listed this person with all of my previous employers and my University with the same degree. I called them to inform them that this information was mine and not hers. Complaint: I want my information removed from Intelius. They require a driver's license or passport. I refuse to have to provide personal information to this company when they have no right to make it easy for anyone to see my history. I have extreme personal reasons why I want my information removed. I would be happy to provide them with my home telephone number and address and they can verify that I am who I say I am without my risking even more information being violated.

Desired Settlement: I just want my personal history and information - all names, schools, businesses and people - which I did not approve that they put on their site, removed immediately. All of the names, addresses, anything associated with me. I was applying for a job and my potential employer saw two companies that I had NEVER worked for or been associated with. They cost me the job because the employer thought I was not being honest!! I need ALL of my information removed from this site immediately! Thank you.

Business Response: Consumer's Final Response /* (-5, 5, 2013/04/25) */ Thank you so much. It looks like they resolved the issue without my having to give them more personal information. I really appreciate their cooperation and your assistance. Please close this case and I apologize that I wasn't able to get to you before any time was spent. Sincerely, ******

Complaint: I contacted them regarding the info they are providing about me not being accurate. There are 2 ****** ******'s in ********* and they have somehow combined out profiles. When I contacted them they told me they are unable to change/correct the information contained in the profile.

Desired Settlement: I want them to separate and correct the profiles, so that they information they are reporting is correct. I would also like confirmation/proof that those corrections have been made.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response /* (1000, 5, 2013/04/08) */ Intelius solely collects and compiles the public records and publicly available information. Local, state and federal agencies make updates to public records. The information can come from sources such as: marketing surveys, land deeds, catalog purchases, voter registrations, lawsuit filings, court records, magazine subscriptions, and address changes. While we are unable to make changes to public records and publicly available information; we would be more than happy to remove the information from the Intelius database, as well as affiliated sites per Ms. ******'s request. We ask that we be provided with the specific hyperlink where the information is appearing on our website along with an indication of which listing Ms. ****** wishes to have removed.

Additional Notes

Complaint: Intelius has been charging my card $19.95 twice monthly for at least the last 18 months without my knowledge, without my actual use of any of their services, and without ever sending me any itemized billing statements. On top of all that, upon researching the company and the services, I found that any charges should only be monthly, not bimonthly. They have been charging me double for something I didn't want or know I was getting.

Desired Settlement: I want a full refund of every $19.95 charge. I have not used the company's services, I was unaware of my membership with Intelius, Intelius has never contacted me with any kind of billing info or service info. Intelius never inquired why I wasn't using any of their services. Finally, I am appalled that I have been getting charged DOUBLE for services I didn't sign up for. I have been scammed.

Business Response: Business' Initial Response /* (4000, 6, 2013/04/08) */ Intelius customers are presented with a two tier pricing structure when purchasing reports on the Intelius website. They have the option of paying the full price, or a discounted promotional price which includes a free trial of the Identity Protect Membership offered through Intelius. When a customer selects the promotional price, they are redirected to a full page display that describes in detail the benefits of the membership and the terms and conditions of the offer, including billing. By choosing to proceed with the purchase at the promotional price, the customer agrees to the terms and conditions of the promotional offer. Additionally, Intelius customers are presented with a single page display offering enrollment in the Intelius Premier Membership. In this case, the promotional offers for both the Identity Protect Membership and the Intelius Premier Membership were accepted and the memberships were activated. As requested, both memberships were canceled and on 04/08/2013 a refund was issued for all membership charges in the total amount of $957.60. The refund will appear on ****** ******'s statement ($19.95x48) in one of the next two billing cycles, depending on the closing date. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience. Consumer's Final Response /* (3000, 4, 2013/04/08) */ Upon further investigation of my bank account, it looks like Intelius began these twice monthly charges in May of 2011. They have never stopped since, and I have received no communication from them whatsoever.

It has fraudulent practices. i signed up for a 2 day trial of their product, for people finder information. within 15 minutes on their site requesting minimum info on a person, i realized this site had no up to date or correct info, i cancelled, they have the nerve to charge my account $6.95 for one search in 15 minutes, which was bogus information.

Desired Settlement: refund of $6.95

Business Response: Business' Initial Response /* (1000, 5, 2013/04/17) */ Intelius' policy is to use all applicable means to deliver the information service to our customers. We want ****** ****** to be fully satisfied with their purchase from Intelius. Since they were not completely satisfied with the People Search Plus Report purchased from Intelius, on 04/14/2013 as requested we canceled the charge of $6.95. The charge will be released back to ****** ****** and the billing statement will be updated in one of the next two billing cycles depending on the closing. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter and apologize for any inconvenience.
