Complaint: We hired CertaPro To paint our house. While they did provide the painting service on time, one of their vans leaked oil in our driveway leaving a fairly large stain. The company attempted to clean the spot when it was discovered, and twice afterward, we spent the weekend scrubbing the stain several times until it wouldn't lighten any more. The stain appears to be permanent. We attempted to negotiate a resolution with CertaPro but when we rejected his initial offer of $100 in compensation, he stopped communicating with us.
Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund Reduction in total bill.
Business Response: Business' Initial Response /* (1000, 6, 2013/05/18) */ Contact Name and Title: **** ******, Owner Contact Phone: XXX-XXX-XXXX Contact Email: *******@certapro.com One of our vans leaked a small amount of motor oil on the customers driveway while we were painting their home. My Job Foreman used his pressure washer and a degreaser that day to clean the affected area. When we heard the next day that the customer was not happy with the clean up, we sent our our Sales Rep to look at the problem. She proceded to wash the remaining oil residue with degreaser and a wire brush and then rinsed the area. The area was still wet so we were unable to determain how effective the clean up was. The following day the customer again stated that they did not think that the areas was cleaned enough so I sent our another crew to again pressure wash, and scrub with a degreaser and then rinse with a final time with the pressure washer. The following day I visited the customer's home to view the current situation. I was not able to locate the area of the driveway that the customer clained was stained, until I asked the customer to show me the area that we had cleaned. In my opinion the driveway looks the same in all places. If you look hard enough you can see some evidence of an area that has been cleaned, but overall the area matches the rest of the driveway. I have photos of the driveway that demonstrate this. The customer was demanding a 25% reduction in the total bill for the painting of the home. (as they previously stated on more then one occation, the house looks great and they are happy with the painting) We charged them $3650 for the painting of their home, so a $900 discount request was clearly unreasonable. I told them as much and instead offered a $100 reduction for their troubles. They told me they did not agree, but two days later I recieved a check in the mail from them for full payment. I interpreted this as the case closed. Please let me know if you require photos or any additional information. **** ****** Owner, CertaPro Painters Consumer's Final Response /* (3000, 8, 2013/05/27) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Clearly, the case is not closed; that is why we went to the BBB with our complaint. We have not returned CertPro's contract stating that we are satisfied with the job and that it is complete. We paid the previously agreed amount as a sign of good faith. We intend to bargain in good faith and demanded nothing. *** ****** asked for a number "to make this right" so we gave him one. That's not a demand, that's a beginning point to negotiate. The "small" stain is 62 inches long and 19 inches at its widest point; hardly unnoticeable to us. That does not include a similar oil spill in the street in front of our house that we have passed on to our homeowners' association. The stain is as light as we can make it, not because CertaPro washed it, but because we, the homeowners, bought materials and scrubbed the driveway ourselves numerous times over the weekend until no more progress could be made. The bottom line is that our property was damaged and has not been made right. We are still not satisfied with CertaPro and with how we have been treated while we have tried to resolve this damage. This isn't about making *** ****** happy; it's about making the customer happy. We didn't have a stain previously but we have to live with it now. What customer would be happy with having to live with the permanent damage of a 5 foot oil stain?
