Additional Notes

Complaint: I contacted Advanced Air Systems and explained that I wanted them to come out to look at my air conditioner as it wasn't cooling as well as it used to. Their front office said that they offered a diagnostic service for $85.00 + tax, which would figure out what the problem was. When the technician came out to inspect my system, he mentioned that there are 3 places these systems typically fail... a flow regulator in the furnace, the compressor in the AC unit, or a reduced charge of Freon. The technician looked at the component in the furnace and said it was fine. Then he checked the pressure of the system and said the pressure was low. He couldn't tell if the problem was the compressor or a low charge of Freon. Technician said it would cost more money to finish his diagnosis. He mentioned he was going to pump more Freon into the system and it costs $150 for the first pound, and $20 each additional pound of Freon. I asked if he could test the compressor, before resorting to adding Freon. He said there wasn't. I asked what would happen if there was a leak? He mentioned it would probably cool for this season, but then might leak out at the end. I mentioned his front office didn't mention these extra costs, as they said it would be $85 for the technician to diagnose what the problem was. I was essentially being asked to pay at least 3x the fee to continue with the diagnosis ($85 for the diagnosis + $150 for one pound of Freon + $20 for each additional pound of Freon). This technician didn't diagnose the problem for $85, as the front office claimed he would. Instead he asked for much more money to continue with the diagnosis. The front office of Advanced Air Systems told me that the technician would figure out what the problem was and it would cost $85 + tax.

Desired Settlement: If a company says they can do a service for a given price, they should honor their price. Don't offer to sell a cheeseburger for $1 then try to charge the customer an extra $1 for the patty, and yet another $1 for the cheese. Advanced Air Systems failed to diagnose what the problem was. No indication was given that there could be additional charges. I was told it would be $85 + tax to diagnose what the problem is. I do not think I should pay if they fail to deliver on their service at their quoted price.

Business Response: Final Consumer Response /* (2000, 6, 2014/05/16) */ On 5/15/14 I spoke with *****, a Service Manager for Advanced Air Systems. I explained the problem with the service call I had and the Manager said they decided not to charge me for the visit. ***** mentioned the reasons why the diagnostic fee was going up 3x the original quoted price. I mentioned there was a communication problem in how the front office sold the diagnostic service. I mentioned their schedulers are telling people that for $85 total, they will inspect the system and find the problem. Since they agreed not to charge me for the visit, I consider this complaint resolved.
